New York Daily News - http://www.nydailynews.com
'American Dreams'might die soon By GAIL SHISTER Tuesday, February 8th, 2005 It's nightmare time at "American Dreams." NBC last week cut back its season order of the family drama from 19 episodes to 17. Moreover, the network has shelved "Dreams" for the February sweeps. It won't return until March. "It's very clear we're on the bubble," said Tom Verica, who plays patriarch Jack Pryor on "Dreams." "It's really demoralizing. The gypsy life we lead as actors, things happen quickly. Unfortunately, they're usually out of our control. I'm very proud of this show. There's got to be room for a quality family drama." The critics - and NBC boss Jeff Zucker - love "Dreams," which is set in the turbulent '60's against the backdrop of Dick Clark's "American Bandstand." But it's getting clobbered by CBS' "Cold Case" and ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" in the 8 p.m. Sunday time slot. In its third season, "Dreams" is averaging 7.5 million viewers, down from almost 10 million in 2002-03 and 8.8 million last season. To offset "Dreams"' hefty price tag (estimated at more than $1.7 million per episode), executive producer Jonathan Prince has peppered the show with product placements from big-time sponsors. Still, odds are slim that "Dreams" will make NBC's fall cut. Last week was brutal on the cast, Verica said, because the end of production was suddenly moved up more than two weeks, to Friday. NBC won't decide until May whether the 17th episode was the season finale or the series' swan song. That episode "was originally designed to be a cliffhanger," said Verica. "It would be a tremendous disappointment if this is how the show ends." A 20-year veteran of TV, Verica is no stranger to disappointment. With a quality show, however, the prospect of cancellation still stings. "I've gotten better at this," he said. "My business head says, 'Business is business.' My skin has gotten a little thicker. On a personal level, this is a quality show and we have some pretty high-profile supporters." Knight Ridder

I think a cast member would know what's going on.......but who knows?
Sure sounds like Tom Verica thinks something's up. Peace. |

Now I read on another post that the cast is the last to know at times.......sometimes even showing up to film and finding out cancellation has happened.
So I don't know what to think now. Sure sounds like Jonathan Prince is still trying. Peace.

I read the article about Tom Verica in this thread........does any other cast member have anything to say? Do you think they have web sites like Arlen Escarpeta where they talk about the possible cancellation?
I'm not that computer smart so I don't know how to find out. Peace. |

Does anyone know if Tom Verica has his own website? Maybe he has more "inside" info on how things are going.
Peace. |

Someone says Rachel Boston just signed on to be on a pilot.
Can someone be on two shows at the same time? Does anyone know?........I don't feel good about this. I mean, I'm happy for Rachel's career......but is this a sign our show isn't staying on? Maybe just her part is cut. Does anyone know anything, or if Rachel has a website and says anything on it? Peace. |

"Scrubs" at the same time (I believe) that "Six Feet Under" was on. It's possible.

That was me. I heard the news on tvtome, then confirmed in on thefutoncritic.com... I don't know what to think about this. Things don't look good. Some people say that the pilot may not even get picked up, or they may change actresses for the final taping of the show. Fortunately nothing is set in stone, right?

That's a real good point. A lot of pilots probably aren't picked up.
Peace. |

I guess we can treat the Rachel Boston news just like this latest Will Estes news in the same way..........in Will's news it says his latest pilot signing "takes second to American Dreams if it renews".........so it's still alive.
Peace. |

Someone said Brittany was on Conan O'Brien last night.
Does anyone know how it went. While I'm sure she mentioned her upcoming movie, she probably talked alot about AD last night.......I can just feel it. I had to sleep, or I would have watched it. Please let me know how it went and what she said about AD. Peace. |

I'm sorry to report that they didn't talk about AD. They really didn't even talk about the pacifer. Mostly about her dating life and how well she got along with Vin Diesel. They did metion that she is on AD and that it airs on NBC this wed. so on a positive note thats more advertisement then NBC has done. But no anwser to our million dollar question, willi it be back for season four.
