Default Should Bush replace Cheney?

Should Bush replace Cheney on the ticket as VP? If yes, then please make a list of possible replacements.

I voted no, however, it wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit if Bush dumped Cheney for someone like Condi Rice or Colin Powell. I think the main problem with Cheney is his health(and there is some controversy with him, although, I don't see that as a big deal).

I remember the SNL skit from when Bush was first elected and Cheney was having all those health problems. They were worried that if Cheney died, Bush would be president

I really don't like Cheney. Colin Powell would be a very good choice, but can I just sit back and hope that somebody brings back John McCain?

Strategically, no. Bush would hurt his chance of reelection by dumping Cheney. Most people don't realize that Cheney is probably the "guiding force" in the administration. And although I would like to see Colin Powell (a very good person despite the fact that he currently seems to have issues with honesty) as vice-president or even president some time in the future after Bush is gone and we go through a Democratic administration or two and are ready to return to a Republican administration, Condi Rice would NOT be a good vice-president. I hate to say it but she is hardly the bright spot in the Bush administration, and I honestly believe that she (along with Cheney) are the forces that make the Bush administration hated so much by liberals.

Now if you ask me, I'd like for him to dump Cheney. Maybe then, Bush would be guided by a person that isn't quite as right-winged if he wins again... of course, who am I to decide? I don't even want Bush to win again in November.

I think it's very unlikely Bush would dump Cheney, afterall, look at the Bush re-election site: Bush/Cheney stuff everywhere. But, everyday for the last 2 or 3 weeks I have heard some mention of Bush possibly dumping Cheney. I also think it would most likely hurt Bush, because people wouldn't be sure how good a new person would do. They know how Cheney has been for the past 4 years.

I really don't think Colin Powell will run for President. His wife persuaded him not too in 1996, so I doubt she would change course.

I found a poll about this very issue taken at the end of last week:

Time/CNN Poll conducted by Harris Interactive. Feb. 5-6, 2004. N=1,000 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3.1 (total sample).

"Do you think George Bush should keep Dick Cheney as his vice presidential running mate in the 2004 presidential election, or do you think he should choose someone else?"

Keep Cheney Choose Someone Else Not Sure
% % %
ALL 43 42 15
Republicans 59 28 13
Independents 41 43 16
Democrats 30 54 16

Surprising.

I don't know if he'll dump him but politically speaking, he absolutely should. Cheney's popularity is abysmal. Plus Indictments are on the horizon in the Valerie Plaim case of at least two people in Cheney's office. Also the Haliburton scandals continue to pile up.

I completely disargee that Rice or Powell would be choices for replacements. I think both of them want out of the administration so bad right now that they can taste it. I'll bet dollars to donuts that Condi Rice and Colin Powell would both resign if Bush were to win a second term.

I don't think so, but I bet if President Bush is reelected Cheney will resign sometime during the second term.

I think he would resign too during the second term, either due to his health or perhaps due to some of the recent controversies (most of which are so far seeming to point directly toward him and nobody else in the administration).

I like Condaleeza Rice. She'd do well for the job.
