Is the future of the sixth Star Trek series in jeopardy? Has UPN lost their minds in their quest to replace Trek with reality shows and lame F-level sitcoms? Read this disturbing report for more information... Quote: UPN hosted journalists Sunday in New York to discuss the netlet's turnaround, which Newsday describes as coming along as "a snail's pace." Leslie Moonves and Dawn Ostroff spoke of new shows and the performance this season. On the subject of the network's once-banner franchise, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, neither Moonves or Ostroff had anything to say, suggesting a fourth season for the struggling prequel may be anything but secure at this point. Many speculate the show would at least finish four years to sweeten a syndication deal for the studio. And now this from Cinescape... Quote: You may remember speculation from last year that STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, the latest TV series in the long-running sci-fi franchise, was in possible danger of being cancelled. Most of these fears seemed to originate with the news that two less episodes of ENTERPRISE would be needed for this season, and when combined with the show's lackluster ratings, produced gossip that the show could be hanging by a thread. There was also talk that the show was being moved to Friday evenings from its Wednesday perch on the network. UPN suits and ENTERPRISE producer Rick Berman dispelled the rumor that the program would move to Fridays but did confirm that a shorter run was in store for the third season. Nevertheless, the news was downplayed as a minor issue and not one serious enough to deliver a deathblow to the struggling series. But last week's abrupt and unexpected cancellation of JAKE 2.0, the series that followed on UPN directly after ENTERPRISE, may have sent a pulse of fear through the cast and crew. At the very least it prompted an individual to write in and tell us what they say the scuttlebutt is on the set right now... "I have a source inside Paramount saying the ENTERPRISE set is awash in rumor of its move to a new timeslot with perhaps its ultimate cancellation on UPN. "Apparently, TREK staffers were assured by higher-ups at UPN, including people in Les Moonves office, that ENTERPRISE and JAKE 2.0 were safe. After all, JAKE 2.0 was signed to complete this season's run of episodes. "But with the hammer coming down on JAKE this week, in addition to the 'trimming' of UPN's order of ENTERPRISE episodes this season, Star Trek's executives fear the promises given were disingenuous at best and are running on 'Red Alert' mode to save ENTERPRISE from cancellation doom, and this may include shopping the show to another network or cable channel." [They preferred to remain anonymous.] This could just be rumor, but the UPN report is true (as far as I know), and that's got me (and, doubtless, millions of Trek fans) worried. Could Enterprise end up on Sci-Fi or Spike for a fourth season? Will another letter campaign fight for its return? Stay tuned to the latest.

The news doesn't look good.
I really wouldn't be surprised if "Enterprise" gets the ax. They really have tried to keep things interesting, but I just don't hold much hope for the show.

here's hoping that it doesn't get the ax, but the news doesn't look good. Unfortunataly, William Shatner may be right in thinking that the long-running "Trek" franchise may be coming to an end.
I HOPE NOT!!!

I think it will wrap up this year and have a 3 year run similar to the original Star Trek that ran from 1966-1969. Enterprise is not in the same league that Next Generation or Deep Space 9 were. And even though Voyager had one season too many, I would put it ahead of Enterprise any day.
Plus Enterprise is moving to 9PM Eastern in a few weeks, so The Mullets and a Mid season replacement can take over their time period. Not very good news. |

I read last night that there might be a big behind the scenes shakeup at "Enterprise." Rick Berman and some others might be replaced by some new blood to revive the show.
Also the success of the show during Feb sweeps will play a big part in UPN's decision to keep the show going. |

I hope the producer doesn't change, to be honest. The last thing I want is Trek to change into some Farscape or Stargate like show. Rick Berman has kept Star Trek as Star Trek for the most part (aside from the terrible pilot for Enterprise) and I credit him for it.

Damn right. If it wasn't for Rick Berman, the entire Star Trek franchise would have died out after season two of TNG. Roddenbury will always be credited for creating Star Trek, but Rick Berman has done a lot more to expand the Star Trek universe.. |
