Default Best Solar act

Solar Records featured a lot of great acts. Among the musical acts are

Midnight Star
Dynasty
Shalamar
Whispers
Lakeside
Klymaxx (pre "Meeting in the Ladies Room")

Which is the best musical act from this label?

U forgot The Deele. The Deele used to be on Solar records too in the early 80's. I didn't know Klymaxx was on Solar back in the day. My favorite acts on Solar were Midnight Star, Lakeside, The Deele.

There's no question who's the best. When I saw "Solar", I instantly thought of my group, Shalamar. Right In The Socket, Night To Remember, For The Lover In You, Dead Giveaway, Second Time Around, Make That Move, Somewhere There's A Love, etc. Just thinking about it makes me wanna go listen to some Shalamar right now!! I even like the stuff they did when all the original members were gone (1987--Circumstantial Evidence)

I like some of Shalamar's songs too. I like Howard Hewett & u know i gotta like him cause he's from my hometown Ohio. I know he's from Ohio, i just don't know what city. It might be Akron though. I like their song For The Lover In You. Jody Watley was a hottie back then too. How long was Jeffrey Daniels with the group? He look like one of them dudes who used to be with Prince back in the day cause of his long hair LOL.

If I remember correctly, Jeffrey and Jody left after the Dead Giveaway single came out. They were in that video but by the time the next single and video came out (Over and Over) Howard Hewett was in the video by himself. Then they got Micki Free and another female singer and did that song for the Footloose soundtrack "Dancing In The Sheets". Jeffrey was in the video for "Do They Know It's Christmas" and Michael Jackson's video for "Bad".

Wasn't Dead Giveaway song on a soundtrack too? Over & Over was a nice song. What yr did that song come out? I didn't know they had a video for that. Jeffrey & Jody probably left the group cause of money & creative differences which is why most groups break up or leave the industry. U sure their song wasn't called Dancing In The Streets instead of Sheets?

'83 was when Dead Giveaway/Over & Over came out so Dancing In The Sheets was the following year because Footloose came out in 84. Check some info on Shalamar here

Wasn't Dead Giveaway song on a soundtrack though? MC Eiht sampled Shalamar's This Is For The Lover In U song on his song Can I Kill It & Babyface did a remake of the song with LL Cool J, Howard Hewett, Jody Watley. My favorite Midnight Star albums are No Parking On The Dance Floor & Planetary Invasion. I also like their song Headlines. I never heard that Headlines album. My favorite Lakeside songs were Fantastic Voyage, Your Love Is On The Run, Raid, Turn The Music Up, Untouchables. I used to like the album cover drawings of their albums. I like the album cover drawings of their Fantastic Voyage & Untouchable albums. I like the pictures of the group members inside those albums. Remember how albums used to have pictures inside when u would open the album up? LOL.

The Deele's first album Street Beat that came out in 83 was very good. That's the only album i've heard by them. This is the group that Babyface & LA Reid used to be with. The songs i liked on their Street Beat album was Body Talk, Just My Luck, Crazy About Cha. I haven't heard this album in a long time. I would like to hear it again. This album is hard to find on cd.

Jody Watley was in the video for "Do they know it's chrismas".

It is nice to know that their are fans of Shalamar. That is one of my favorite groups. Did you know that Jody and Jeffrey were dance partners on Soul Train? Jody was the J Lo of her time because both got started as dancers on popular tv shows. But Watley voice is light years ahead of J Lo's.

My favorite Shalamar albums are "Big Fun" and "Three for Love." I don't know if you feel the same way I do, but any Shalamar album that does not have either Howard Hewitt, Jody Watley, or Jeffrey Daniels, (the first Shalamar album and the last two Shalamar albums) I don't consider a real Shalamar album. It is just an album with the Shalamar name as far as I am concerned.

I find it interested that Hewitt, Watley, and Daniels all were married for a very short time, before getting divorced. Hewitt to an actress who was in Head of the Class (I belive the one who played Maria), Watley to her producer and former Prince bassist Andre Cymone, and Daniels to Stephanie Mills, maybe their is Shalamar curse that prevents its members from having successful marriages.

If you are a fan of the Solar label, you should check out Janet Jackson's s/t debut album. Half of the tracks are produced by Leon Sylvers, and the Solar songs writers write some of the songs. Solar artists appear on the songs as musician and backup singers. Though it is on the A&M label, it is very much a Solar style of album.

Wasn't Howard involved with Nia Peeples? Am I wrong about Jeffery being in the Band Aid video or was it just Jody? Now I don't remember. I've got Janet's debut, I had it when it first came out and liked it alot. I was just glad later on that I was able to say I was into Janet Jackson the recording artist before Control came out. People might say Control is her first "real" album, Janet herself seems to not perform any songs from those first two, but I was into her from the start. "Come Give Your Love To Me" was my song. Of course Jesse Johnson produced a couple of songs on Dream Street so I liked that one as well.

Is anybody gonna answer my question about was Dead Giveaway song on a soundtrack? Howard Hewett & Nia Peebles did used to be married. Nia is very attractive. She used to play on Walker Texas Ranger tv show with Chuck Norris & she was in the wack movie Half Past Dead with Steven Seagal, Ja Rule, Morris Chestnut.

Dead Giveaway was from Shalamar's 1983 album "The Look". It may have been used in a movie later on but as far as I know it was specifically done for their own album, not a movie soundtrack.
