Thumbs down Passions Renewed For Another Year

Bastards, can't they see when a show needs to be cancelled? It's a waste of space and it's going no where. When someone finds out a secret on this show they keep it to themselves, where's the fun in that? It could be a great show, but they aren't trying.

From NBCMV

NBC RENEWS HIT DAYTIME SERIES 'PASSIONS' FOR A SIXTH SEASON

BURBANK, Calif. -- January 14, 2004 -- NBC has renewed its hit soap opera "Passions" for a sixth season through 2004-05, it was announced today by Jeff Zucker, President, NBC Entertainment, News and Cable Group

Sheraton Kalouria, Senior Vice President of Daytime Programming, NBC Entertainment said of the announcement, “Critics and viewers alike acclaim ‘Passions’ for revolutionizing daytime television with the most romantic, innovative storytelling in the genre.”

Garnering praise as one of the fastest growing soap operas in America, “Passions” is daytime's #2-rated series among the most coveted demographics, including women 18-34 (2.3 rating/ 14 share) and women 18-24 (2.6/17). The series is also #1 among female teens 12-17 (0.6/ . Currently "Passions" is averaging a 1.8/11 among women 18-49 and 2.7 million viewers overall.

"Passions’" quirky characters and classic love stories have generated interest from the daytime community. Among its accolades "Passions" counts eight Emmy Award nominations, numerous Soap Opera Digest awards -- and Rolling Stone named it a "hot, guilty pleasure".

Based on the rich history and mystery of the harbor community of Harmony, "Passions" explores the lives, loves and losses of four core families: the Cranes, the Lopez-Fitzgeralds, the Bennetts and the Russells, each of whom have their own distinct and diverse personalities. It also features a 300-year-old witch, Tabitha Lenox (Juliet Mills).

"Passions" is a creation of celebrated daytime drama veteran James E. Reilly, who is considered by many industry insiders to be one of the most innovative and prolific writers of the genre. Reilly has created some of the most talked-about storytelling in daytime drama, including characters who are buried alive, or possessed, as well as daytime's first-ever multiple character on NBC's "Days of Our Lives."

"Passions" is produced by NBC Studios in association Outpost Farms Productions, Inc. and is taped in Studio City, California. Lisa de Cazotte is the executive producer.

Just like AW before it, Passions is the ugly little soap that nobody seems to care about. Except the viewers. The show does very well in the demos that really matter (ie- the soap viewers of the future), which is why it gets renewed.

Personally, I love this because I get to stick it in the face of Passions bashers like you, which included just about everybody (including critics) when the show first started. Unlike many other soaps, the network isn't trying to massively retool the show, cut cast members or hire on pointless new characters. Why? NBC knows that what Passions is doing IS working, as evidenced by the ratings and the rabid fan base it has.

Now that the show is moving along more quickly, I love it even more. So ha!

News flash, I'm a Passions FAN, not a basher. I have been watching this show since it started in 1999, the best year of the show. But now I only watch the episodes with Juliet Mills (Tabitha) because she is the only interesting, funny, and best character on the show. But lately I don't even bother watching the episodes with her in it because it is getting so bad.

i have watched this show since the first episode too. it has went from the best show on tv to something i could care less about. reasons?:
i have stated before that sheridan has died 3 or 4 times. that is stupid.
changing too many faces seems to be one successful part of this show. it is like they are on a race to see who can be recast the most of the same character.
losing timmy was a bad blow. but to replace him with the girl doll was an insult to him.
the whole deal of ivey getting david to create a marriage and a child for grace was just dumb. and everybody believes it????
the chasing of ethan by teresa at all costs was way overdone.
a man with all the power in the world has tried to get his daughter killed many times and it hasn't happened yet? so now he has manipulated her husband into committing her for her own good? what a sappy idiot!!
the whole story of beth and her stealing the baby. ignorant.
the whole deal of kay getting pregnant was so dumb.
this deal of rebecca keeping teresa from ethan is even more dumb. it is amazing how everyone on this show apparently knows about eve and julians past except for TC and the girls. why? because it seems everybody is blackmailing one of them to keep it quiet. plus they tell everybody about their past. some big secret.

this show needs to get on track to get storylines that it started with, to get it back to being good.
stories like why do the cranes and tabitha have a past. what happened?
why is tabitha so afraid of the standish women?
what power do the standish women have and how did they get it?
where did grace come from? why didn't she remember?
how did tabitha get her powers the first time?

i have always said that they need to go back in time for storylines to give foundations for some of todays stories. like "dark shadows" did. and with sheridan and luis having lived so many times in the past together, they could do all those and have some potentially good stuff to do.
so many different things to do besides all this junk now. this show had so much promise. now i don't care if i miss a show or not.

Oh I know. When I read the article and it said "hit soap" I literally laughed out loud. I'm like, "uh, more like sh** soap."

Passions is a lot of things, but REVOLUTINARY is NOT ONE of them...

also maybe Passions does appeal to "future" soap viewers but if Soaps continue to ignore LONG-TIME VIEWERS they will be NOWHERE fast... it is the long-time viewers that make soaps thrive... the viewers that have watched FOR DECADES UPON DECADES... if it weren't for them soaps would be NOWHERE.

Passions may be dead last in household, but as I said before, it's number one in female teens, two in women 18-24 and 18-34 and 6 (or 7th) in women 18-49. Some of thoses demos may seen tiny, but they represent the soap viewers of the future. That's why ABC's and in particular CBs's soap may have higher HH ratings, but they skew olders, which is why they are in trouble.

The emmys, as amply demostrated, are NOT a true gauge of what's good on tv. they keep nominating the same stuff over and over again. If Ellen doesn't get a nod this year for best talk show host, that'll prove it. Her talk show is the best and most refreshing I've seen since the first season of Rosie

You're just saying that because PASSIONS has NEVER been nominated and NEVER WILL because it acknowledges QUALITY acting, producing, writing and directing, something that Passions will never have because it hires models as actors and freaking morons as writers. JER has NEVER written a good story ever...

Passions is my favorite soap opera. I am so glad they renewed it for another season. I hope they will stop switch characters though. I like the old Kay better than the new one.
