Default Repeated episodes

I checked the ABC web site to find out what episode is being aired next (Tuesday, December 30). Turns out to be a repeat of the third episode of the season, "The Smarty Party." I'm all for repeats, but I'm left wondering now: What happened to the first two episodes, "Pilot" and "The Second Date"?

I watch ABC through the Portland, Oregon, affiliate, KATU, and neither has been rebroadcast since their original airings. Since I essentially missed the first episode, and was looking forward to the chance to catch the whole series from the beginning, I'm more than a little disappointed that ABC appears to be skipping ahead.

One strange thing I noticed was that TV Guide's web site indicated a repeat of "The Second Date" for Tuesday, December 23, but "The Greatest Christmas Story Ever Told" aired instead, having been preempted the week before. I wish everyone could get their act together.

Anyway, anyone have any idea what's going on with all this?

I noticed that in my local paper's TV schedule as well. Apparently, ABC had planned to air the Christmas episode on December 16 until ABC elected to show Diane Sawyer's interview with Bush instead, showed the Xmas show on December 23 when a rerun had been scheduled, and now plans to show a rerun for tonight - though probably not the one they intended to show before the Bush interview caused ABC's original short-term scheduling plans for the 8 ET/ 7 CT Tuesday night time slot to run a week behind for awhile, at least into the new year. It seems that the papers and magazines that publish TV schedules haven't caught up with that disruption.

Anyway, if tonight's episode is a rerun of any of the first four episodes, none of which I've seen, I'll be happy. Which one will it be? Surprise me, ABC!

Just don't give me Chris Wallace interviewing Colin Powell!

Good to meet a fellow Oregonian. But why do you hate it so? Too much rain? I love it here, "liquid sunshine" and all.

You know lately I have noticed that networks are doing that more and more. They usually save the pilot for the summer. They might in the next repeats end up airing the pilot and the second episode

I hope so. I love this show so much I'm making a VHS collection. That is, until they release the series season by season on DVD. (I don't have the tools just yet to make my own.) I didn't realize how much I was going to be into it until "The Musical," but I didn't start to record it regularly until "All about Evil." So I eagerly await ABC's rebroadcast of the first five episodes. With tonight's repeat of "The Smarty Party," that's one down, four to go.

Up till just over a year ago, I had no DVD players to speak of. Now I have three, including a DVD-ROM, and I'm planning a brand new computer in 2004 with a DVD burner. Not rubbing your face in it or anything. Just marveling aloud at how long I dreamt about getting into the world of DVD, and how much I did when I finally crossed that bridge.

And it's cool to know I'm not the only one recording the show. There's something special about "I'm with Her." Most sitcoms blur together into pathetic mirror images of each other, like third and fourth generation copies of a master. Which may be why so many of them fail. But in my book, "I'm with Her" is much more original than most that have come around in a while. Same as "That '70s Show," which I also love. Both feel more like masters than copies.

It also helps that you have likable, warm characters like Patrick and Alex to care about, as well as funny characters like Cheri and Stevie to give you a good laugh or two!

The pilot will re-air before February sweeps start, on Tuesday, February 3 at 8:30PM. Then new episodes for sweeps, with guest stars like Brooke Shields, Penny Marshall again, and Joan Rivers.
