Ali Wentworth petting a dog

At the end of one ep of Living it uyp with Ali and Jack a dog came on the show to do a special barking trick (forget exactly what it was). Any way then beauty Ali bent down and started petting the dog. I wonder why she did that. Was it a publicity thing or did Ali feel lonely and down in the dumps and did she pet the dog to feel better (they say women especially get therapy out of petting dogs). Or did Ali feel the dog seemed sad and was she trying to make the animal feel better by showering affection on it? Anyone?
