Default Elizabeth Montgomery Biography on Biography Channel Dec. 13

Bio on Liz is on right now on Bio channel. Are you watching it? I've seen it at least twice before, but this biography is very well done and includes lots of info on her very early career on TV.

I caught like five minutes of it and then got booted out of the living room because my parents wanted to watch the dish. Although, I have it on tape from the first time it premiered and yes I agree, it was very well done.

I especially liked the fact that neither her 3rd husband (William Asher) nor two of their children (Bill and Rebecca) had only good things to say about her! Good to see that the magic came from behind the screen!

I thought it was sad that she and her father had become estranged. When he had his own television program in the 50's, Elizabeth guest-starred on it, and it showed him praising her perfomance, and acting so proud of her. I think that one of her friends (I forget which one) mentioned that part of the estrangement may have been due to jealosy on his part, regarding her success on TV in "Bewitched" and other projects. But Robert Montgomery was also a very successful actor in his time, in movies (and I think his TV show was quite popular, too.) So this explanation didn't really make sense to me. Someone else on the biography mentioned that he did not approve of one of the men she married. Anyone have any more information on their estrangement?

Lightbulb Estrangement of Eliz. and her Dad

I saw the bio program a few months ago on A&E also, and I'm a huge fan of Elizabeth's dad Robert as well as a big fan of hers. From what I've heard/read, Robert was jealous of her career, and only visited her on the Bewitched set one time during the entire run. Apoparently, since she was "the boss" on the set -- well, she and Bill Asher, her father felt as if her star was outshining his, and even went so far as to be quoted as saying, "I used to be Robert Montgomery, movie star... Now I'm only known as Elizabeth Montgomery's dad." Apparently, his fragile ego couldn't take such an "affront," and he never visited Elizabeth on the set of Bewitched nor any of her other film/tv projects again. I find this especially amazing/annoying, as Robert had made a very conscious effort to work behind the camers vs. in front of the camera for quite a few years already, so what the heck was his problem? I also think I remember hearing that he did not approve of the age differnce between Elizabeth and either Bill Asher or Gig Young. Young was also jealous of her success as well. So sad, all of that, and then for her to die at an early age. It just go to show that you shouldn't take life so seriously, and to let go of the little things. Happy holidays, everyone!
