Happy birthday to one of the greats!

Every time I think of Lennon, it upsets me because I keep thinking "What if?"

There's no doubt in my mind we would've seen *some* form of full Beatles reunion.
It also would've been very cool to hear his opinions on today's music scene. I read somewhere that John would've liked hardcore rap. Said he may've admired the clever word play because that's one of the things *he* was so good at.

I love the Beatles. They're my #1 band of all, but w/ both John & George gone now, listening to them feels a little sad to me. Thankfully, they wrote so many positive & uplifting songs, I quickly get into it & stop thinking that way.

Rickenbacker: I agree totally--you put in words what I was thinking when I realized it was John Winston Lennon's Birthday. Also i didn't know it was son Sean's Birthday too. When was julien born? {wasnt he named after John's mother?}

John Charles Julian Lennon was born on April 8, 1963, and yes, he was named after John's mother, Julia.

I have to spin "#9 Dream" this evening. That's my favorite solo Lennon tune.

John Lennon was a great man. He inspired me to start playing guitar. He had just started becoming friends with Paul McCartney again, so who knows what kind of magic they have could made. Mark David Chapman silenced a genius. If I could just get my hands on that bastard Chapman!

He was sooo great. Like someone mentioned earlier,"What if?" He could've done so much more with his life. He would probably still be at it.....

Yes, he did. I think he and Paul McCartney would've made beautiful music together again.. it's not fair that an incredible talent with the gift to touch so many people was taken away.

Just to clear up the whole "becoming friends again with Paul McCartney" thing:

John Lennon and Paul McCartney met up in 1974, during John's "Lost Weekend." John was living in L.A. with May Pang at the time, and was working on producing Harry Nilsson's album, "Pussycats."

Paul was in town, and he met up with John at the recording studio. There, John, Paul, Nilsson, and Stevie Wonder cranked out a coked-up jam session, which is available on the bootleg "John & Paul: A Toot And A Snore In '74." It's not very good. The fact that they're high on cocaine shows, and you hear John yelling and cursing at engineers between songs.

After John and Yoko patched things up, John moved back into the Dakota in New York. Almost a year later, Sean was born. During that period, Paul would often show up at John's house unannounced. In fact, John and Paul were watching Saturday Night Live together when Lorne Michaels pleaded for them to come on the show. And they almost did, but decided against it at the zero hour.

Soon after that, house-husband John's nerves got kind of frayed by Paul's unannounced visits. John let him have it one night, and the two didn't see each other after that. This was 1976.

By 1980, though, they had re-established communication, having phone conversations once in awhile. And the discussions were usually pleasant, so who knows what wonderful things would have happened had John Lennon been allowed to live.

I think The Beatles would have reunited, but not to write and record any new material; just to play the occasional live show or two.

John was going to tour in support of "Double Fantasy" in '81, but beyond that, I'm sure he would have continued on with his solo career, including the planned sequel to "Double Fantasy" (see "Milk And Honey," 1984). After that, I don't think he'd do anymore joint Lennon-Ono albums.

It would be great to see a 63-year-old John Lennon. He does exist, though, in my mind and in the minds of many fans. Here's my version:

He's got white hair, glasses, and is a bit wrinklier than the other three former Beatles. But he's just as wide-eyed and happy, if not moreso, with his life as he was in 1980.

"When I was singing and writing this and working with [Yoko], I was visualizing all the people of my age group. I'm singing to them, I'm saying, Here I am now. How are you? How's your relationship going? Did you get through it all? Wasn't the '70s a drag, you know? Here we are. Well, let's try and make the '80s good, you know?" --John Lennon, 1980
