Lightbulb General Steele / Colonel Potter

Kind of ironic that Harry Morgan appeared as General Steele ("The General Flipped At Dawn") on the first episode of what was to be Mc Lean Stevenson's final season.

Morgan was unwittingly auditioning for a role that had yet to be written...Colonel Sherman T. Potter.

I would say that is about right. With that episode, I guess they saw that Harry Morgan could be a funny guy, so why not bring him in as the new Commanding Officer?

Cool

That is correct. That role ended up being an unintentional audition, as they found out afterwards that McLean Stevenson intended to leave at the end of the season.

There were no auditions...the role of Potter was created for Harry Morgan.

You realized Steele was a total, utter loony when he said to Klinger (while Kling was in drag) "Not now Marjorie. I'm inspecting the troops". :0)

that scene where him and Col. Blake were discusing the tounge deppresor is the scene where they decided to make him McLean Stevensons replacment.

Klinger's reaction to Steele was priceless...it was not what Klinger expected at all.

I don't remember, what was Klinger's response to that?

Klinger just looked really confused as Steele walked away. Then they cut to commercial.

What a great episode.

I liked when he was talking to Hawkeye, who he (Gen. Steele) thinks is a reporter, and he says "Tell Mrs. Steele thank you for the stewed prunes-greatest thing since the gatling gun (machine gun)." Then he says to Col. Blake: "Speaking of that, where's the little Generals room?" Col. Blake points out the door & says "Oh Right over there, General." Steele walks out, & he (Col. Blake) says "Not over there, sir, that's the-uh-ok, fine sir, whatever."

I thought he acted just as well as Steele as he did Potter. THe Steele ep should be digitally remastered so that it all turns out to be a dream of one of the characters. And Potter is really the CO. The person who dreamed it just imagined Potter was someone else.

Can you explain to me how that absurd idea should work? Digitally Remastering is only that... Digitally Remastering the picture.
