Yes, I wonder how? Since TBS has a deal with it, I'll try to find out if TBS dropped the contract. Since TBS did have it for a few more years, same with Matlock, which is also coming to Hallmark:

WEEKDAYS, Effective Tuesday, September 2:
11:00AM Matlock (replaces Perry Mason)
6:00PM Little House on the Prairie (replaces The Waltons)

NEW SHOWS: M*A*S*H, Matlock, Little House on the Prairie, and The Lone Ranger
OFF THE SCHEDULE: The Waltons

HALLMARK CHANNEL’S ALREADY-STRONG SCHEDULE ENHANCED BY ACQUISITION OF PROVEN-RATINGS WINNERS

Emmy® Award Winners “JAG,” “Matlock,” “Little House on the Prairie” and “The Lone Ranger,” Poised for Programming at Television’s Upstart Startup

Beginning September 2003, Hallmark Channel will introduce three out of four new acquisitions to its programming lineup in a strategy designed to freshen the schedule and strengthen the network’s already-strong standing as a formidable cable contender.

The Emmy® Award-winning series “Matlock” debuts on Hallmark Channel weekday mornings, beginning Tuesday, September 2 (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. E/P). Multiple Emmy® winner “Little House on the Prairie” premieres weeknights, effective Tuesday, September 2 (6 – 7 p.m. E/P). Television’s classic Western, “The Lone Ranger,” charges onto Hallmark Channel’s highly-rated “Rough ‘n Ready” block with an all-day marathon Saturday, September 6 (6 a.m. – 3 a.m. E/P) before settling into its regular time period, Saturday afternoons (1 – 2 p.m. E/P). And in a high-profile acquisition coup, the edgy military drama “JAG” will land at Hallmark Channel in January 2005.

“We are excited about these solid ratings performers coming to our network,” says David Kenin, Executive Vice President, Programming. “We jumped at the chance to acquire these high-profile, award-winning series’ from networks like TNT and TBS, because they have been perennial ratings sluggers, but were stuck on the bench. These hitters should provide plenty of power going into the future.”

“Matlock” stars People’s Choice Award winner Andy Griffith as a high-priced defense attorney who earns every penny of his quarter-of-a-million dollar fee. The drama ran from 1986-95 and received three Emmy® nominations, including a win for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music Composition for a Series (Dramatic Underscore). And series regular Julie Sommars earned a Golden Globe nomination for her supporting role in the series.

Based on the series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, “Little House on the Prairie” originally aired from 1974-83 and followed the lives of the 19th century Ingalls family who worked a farm in the small town of Walnut Grove, Minnesota. Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert, each of whom earned a Golden Globe nomination for their roles, and Emmy® nominee Melissa Sue Anderson starred in the beloved series, which was nominated for 17 Emmy® Awards and won four of the statuettes.

“Hi-yo, Silver, away!” Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels, both immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, star in the classic Western that ran from 1949-1957. Nominated for an Emmy® Award, “The Lone Ranger” followed the adventures of a Texas ranger and his trusted Native American comrade who lived off the proceeds of a silver mine while riding their faithful mounts, Silver and Scout, and bringing justice to the frontier.

David James Elliott and Catherine Bell star in “JAG,” about an elite legal wing of officers trained as lawyers who investigate, prosecute and defend those accused of crimes in the military including murder, treason and terrorism. The adventure drama has succeeded in its highly competitive time period on CBS and proven a key asset to USA’s lineup, drawing huge audiences to cable.
