The suggestions of Caroll O'Connor, Hugh Beaumont, Lucille Ball, Deforrest Kelley, and Adam West have been made. An analysis.
Caroll O"Conner's TZ ep (if he hads one and he of course didn't) would have lost all credibility later as he became way too ultra-known as Archie Bunker. So he's a rotten suggestion. Lucille Ball's a joke. The inadequate last season producer William Froug wanted to put in Jack Benny in a TZ ep (God only knows what the hell for). Froug was listed as the main reason TZ died in the fifth season. He was an almost totally lousy producer for this series. His unmaterialized suggestion of Benny was awful. Thank Jesus it didn't happen. Lucille Ball would have been worse on TZ than Benny. Thus another awful idea also. What the hell was right about Hugh Beaumont for TZ? His last name? Forget it (if so). He was no relation to slick, talented, fascinating TZ writer Charles Beaumont. Charles had a different last name originally. Any TZ part the Beaumont actor would have played wouldn't have been worth noting thus there's no reason to wish he'd been on there. The good suggestions so far were Deforrest Kelly, he belonged on TZ as he was mysterious looking and as he had four Star Trek TOS co-stars who were TZ alumni (Shatner, Nimoy, Doohan, and Takei) he ended up looking like a total non-actor around them on ST:TOS for his having 0 TZ appearances. Adam West, excellent suggestion, was born to be on TZ but never was. Through this tragedy I've come to realize mother nature really makes mistakes. With his whole mysterious but still of this world demeanor and leading man status (and his great flair for drama, action, and comedy) he would have been splendid in several different TZ eps in fact, besides Death Ship. But very alas, like Kelley (but even more alas), West's acting resume is also TZ-free. |

We all have a right to an opinion. I like Carroll and I like Hugh and no, I didn't suggest Hugh because of his last name. I think both men are talented actors and I would've liked to see them in an ep. Yeah, if they appeared, the ep might've sucked, but you never know.
Please we have a friendly board here, you can state your opinion without making us feel like ants. And since we already have a thread about this, I'm locking this one up. |
