Default Fran Speaks out

Actress Fran Drescher speaks at the Actors Gang Theater in Hollywood at a news conference, June 23, 2003, speaking out against the impending 73% budget slash for all publicly-funded arts programs in California.

A bunch of celebs including our Fran are trying to save funding in public school art programs. Several Hollywood celebrities led by actor-director Tim Robbins called on Gov. Gray Davis not to slash funding, saying children would suffer most.

Apparently Davis is planning to cut the funding by 73 percent programs in visual art, theater, film, dance, music, literature and arts in education.

I know for myself it was the arts programs in my school that prevented me from dropping out. I was the 1st kid in 2 generations to graduate with a diploma instead of quitting & eventually getting around to getting a GED like my parents & 3 brothers & aunts & uncles.
I was opened up to a whole new world because of those programs in addition it helped me to come out of my shell. I was a very introverted & shy kid w/ low self esteem growing up but that all changed when I was talked into taking orchestra & theater. I am quite the opposite now.
Drama/Theater classes & the other arts help kids to build
Enthusiasm - Confidence - Self Esteem - Communication Skills &
Social Skills. It certainly did that for me.

As an adult looking back, it was the only part of my school years that I am most greatfull for having had the chance to experiance & participate in. I think that the goverment is taking too much away from education & they need to give to it & let that be the top priority for funding in America. Without an education your world is not only very small but your ability to function in it is also limited.

What are your thoughts on the cutting of funds for education?
