Default Graduation Day: From a 17 year old Autistic's point of view

If there was ony one word I could use to describe a graduation day, that one word would be bittersweet. Last night was the night of my high school graduation and I cannot describe the feelings I had after I was handed my diploma. I was happy that I accomplished this yet I also felt sad at the same time because I was going to leave the school and the staff members who had done so much for me during my five year tenure at the school. After the ceremony was over, tears of happiness and sadness welled up in my eyes as I hugged all the teachers and staff members who watched me grow from an eighth-grade introvert to a Senior who became the student body President and a winner who had by now won numerous awards. I had never felt this way before. My family including my four sisters, my parents, my brother-in-law and my maternal grandparents were there to see how far I have come. I will miss my school and its staff and I will also miss seeing them on a regular basis but that is how life is. People will come and go into your life like characters in a movie. Life is full of many things including change, surprises, and more. Now I have a summer off and in August, I will start college and I will begin a new life as an adult. I will miss my school and its staff members but I will visit them sometimes. But now I must move on and God only knows what lies ahead of me in my future.

Congrats, BJL. I know how it feels to miss a school and all the surroundings and staff who work there. That's what I'm going through right now. Once you're off to college, don't forget about us I always enjoy reading your posts. Good luck.

Cool

Congrats, BJL! I have reason to rejoice, too -- I graduated from high school three weeks ago, on May 23rd, and it was especially special because I am hearing impaired...I'd been attending a deaf school since I started 2nd grade in 1992, and it was really weird to be graduating, but very special for me too. I will be going off to college in the fall, as well, and I will continue to come here too. Everything you said is so true. Congrats and the very best of luck to you in what you decide to do!!

I think that may well be the first time I have ever used the applauding thing on a post.
Very nicely written expression of your sentiments, BJL! You're on your way to a fine and interesting future. You're a thinker. That's a plague, but it's also a blessing.

That is so super, man! It's great that the last 5 years have meant such a great deal to you, and you shared those wonderful sentiments with us!

You're definitely going places. No matter where those great places will be, I hope you don't forget about coming here! I'm glad you said you'll be sticking around.
