Well, just came across this article at scifi.com and thought I'd pass it along.
Another Zone Remake Due Producers of UPN's new Twilight Zone series are once again going back to the well with a remake of another classic episode, "Eye of the Beholder," written by Rod Serling. The remake will air at 9 p.m. April 30, the network announced. Molly Sims stars as Janet, a woman desperate to conform to her society's physical ideal by going under the plastic surgeon's (Reggie Hayes) knife for the 11th time. This final effort leads her into a literal chamber of horrors. David Ellis (Final Destination 2) directed from Rod Serling's script. The original "Eye of the Beholder" aired Nov. 11, 1960, and starred Donna Douglas (The Beverly Hillbillies) as Janet. http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-m...04/11/10.00.tv Comments anybody? I'm not too crazy about this article. I'm really not. I look at that Maple Street ep and how they did that episode and turned it into a piece of crap, imo and I just feel they should leave the classic show alone. I tried. I really tried giving this new TZ show a shot. I've already posted that before, so I won't go into it again. It's just impossible to beat or match the old series. If you need another example, I'd like to point out the Psycho movie. Okay, we got the 60s version. Tony Perkins was an awesome Norman Bates. The movie was good. Let's roll forward to the 90s and look at the Psycho movie starring Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates. They followed the script word for word, but with different actors. Yet, I think the movie still got bad ratings. Why was this? They followed the formula, but you just didn't have the originals. You didn't have Tony Perkins as Norman Bates. Twilight Zone is the same thing. Don't try to remake old stories. The eps were classics and it just doesn't work the second time around. jmo Oh, instead of posting another post. Let me go ahead and post this in here. Okay, if you go into scifi.com, you'll see this little poll. Several genre television shows are "on the bubble," i.e., in danger of being canceled. Which most deserves to return next season? Current Results: The WB's Angel 41% ABC's Miracles 43% UPN's Enterprise 11% UPN's The Twilight Zone 1% Fox's John Doe 3% I'm sorry, I don't know the deal with these shows. I do know that the show Angel will have until May to renew. I think they had to do some contract negotiations or something and won't reach a decision until May if they will renew the show. I don't know about TZ. I don't know if they'll wait until May to decide to pick it up again or not. I will keep my eyes open and I'll post if I see anything. |

I think that the new "Twilight Zone" and new "Outer Limits" might have been good if they had assigned the good writers and directors, but they didn't. They did a very mediocre job. They had a quality control problem. As for the remake of "Psycho," it was good by conventional standards, but, come on, did anybody think it would match Hitchcock?

Agreed. The show could still be saved if they got some better writers and some better storylines. The thing is that I bet some think the new TZ is a good show. If I'm just a plain 18 year old that has never watched the original Twilight Zone and I started watching this new TZ show, I might like it. I'm not making a guarantee that I'd love it. I'm just saying, if you have nothing to compare the show to, you might like it. I'm sorry, I can't even compare the Twilight Zone shows. I compare this TZ to those Goosebump books. Geez, I used to be a big fan of those Goosebump books when I was a kid. They'd have these many twists that could freak a 10, 11 year old out. If you're 16 and up and went to go read a Goosebump book, you might think of the book as corny. You might be able to predict the twists. Those Goosebump books appeal and has a shock factor for a certain age. I think TZ is like that too. Except age doesn't come into factor. I know somebody on this site that likes both TZ shows. I'm not putting him down. It's just rare to like all the shows. I'm the type that if it doesn't come to the half way mark, it failed. That first part of ep 1 got a really good start and it got to the half way mark, but then they toss that lame ending out and my expectations just fell to the bottom. The second part of ep 1 was just predictable. Ep 2 both parts failed to get halfway. If this show is really in danger of being canceled, I'm at the point now that I wouldn't even care. However, if UPN gives it one more shot and picks the show up for another season, they'd better hire some better writers. If they did hire better writers, I'd give the show another chance. |

I have to admit that my next two posts don't have a damn thing to do with the Twilight Zone or Rod Serling, but I need to show somebody a pic on here and I needed a thread in order to post a pic.

So who watched it? I didn't watch it or record it. Unsticking thread, also.

Sorry, Jenny. I didn't see it but I'll "gamble" and say it probably stank. The show's execs probably noted how people suddenly tuned-in for the classic TZ remakes and think they can use the same bait over and over. This is just another sign of laziness and a lack of originality. I'd rather they at least try to do something original than continuing to reheat leftovers until all the flavor has been bled out of them. (Gee, that's the 2nd time I've related food to this show. What could that mean? I'll think about it over dinner.) Quote:
Angel ![]() Probably the best show of the bunch (and one of the few that I've watched with any regularity). However, it's getting, if you'll pardon the pun, a bit long in the tooth and should probably attempt to retire with dignity. Miracles ![]() I may have seen 1 or 2 episodes, if this is the show I think it is, and wasn't impressed. Not that it was bad, I just recall that it seemed rather generic and predictable. Enterprise ![]() My disappointment with this show has been documented on the Sci-Fi Channel message board. This should've been a fascinating (forgive me) look at the origins of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets (UFP). Instead, it was a splendid example of the vaccuum that is outer space. When mankind finally takes extended journeys into space, instead of cryogenics, Enterprise will be shown and we'll fall fast asleep and drift off into suspended animation. The New Twilight Zone In a word, "no". I'll reconsider if the words "Twilight Zone" are removed from the title, they change the premise/format and get a new host. (Gosh, I guess that would make it another show entirely!? YEAH!!!) ![]() John Doe Although I've missed every opportunity to see this show, I know something of the premise. I'd probably pick this show as most worthy of another chance.

Oh yeah, I bet the remake ep sucked too. I can help you with some of the shows. Angel is getting picked up for another season. I heard this a few days ago. I heard they are gonna redo the show. James Marsters is coming on board. I'm not sure if he will be on from now on until the show ends, or if it's just a few guest appearances. I read on the Buffy board that Charisma Carpenter won't be a regular anymore. She'll just be doing guest appearances. I'm not too sure about Miracles. I haven't heard if they picked it up or not. Enterprise- I think they are gonna do another season of this show. I think they are gonna revamp it. Make it more daring. New Twilight Zone- I posted an article yesterday and it's gone. It's been canceled. John Doe- I can't really remember if JD has been picked up for another season or not. I think it's been canceled, but I'm not 100% sure. |

<BLATANTLY OFF TOPIC>
I'm trying to start an "Enterprise" thread in the general discussion area, if anyone has any interest. Personally, I enjoy "Enterprise." </BLATANTLY OFF TOPIC> I agree that the successors to "Twilight Zone" don't deserve to bear the name. |

Hopefully, the "revamping" that jenny mentioned will add to your enjoyment. Unfortunately, I found it rather dull. Thanks for the feedback about "The New TZ". Now that UPN has finally axed it (if Jenny's info is correct), I assume they'll simply replace it with some new mindless drivel. |

I got my info about the New TZ at scifi.com, btw. Ugh, I bet they replace it with a reality show. That's mindless drivel at it's worst, imo. |

Hey Brandon, do you have the Secrets of Smallville tv guide cover? If you don't, I have an article about Enterprise that I can type out in your Enterprise thread. It talks about the setup for season 3, it might stir up some conversation in your thread. It'll only take me a few minutes to type it.

I hadn't seen that TV Guide. I had seen the preview for the season finale, but your article (posted in the General Discussion area) explained it in much greater detail. Thanks, Jenny!
