Well that depends, Mary-Ann... what do you look like? What are your hobbies? Heck, I don't even know you! To ask me if I *love* you is just so... sudden!

..But if you are speaking of the character played by Dawn Welles, then the answer would be "I do!"

I'm sorry, but I don't really like her that much. She's so nice, it's corny and unrealistic. Nobody's perfect, and she is. That's very creepy.

That's the whole point of the show, everything's unrealistic. All of the chracters are unrealistic, the situation is unrealistic, everything. Like my friend put it, it's a surreal dream world

------------------
"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"

"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"

"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"

"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"

All right, I give up. I guess you're right. Like Hugh Grant said in Notting Hill to Julia Roberts "Meeting you was nice, surreal, but nice." But that's sort of off topic.

While Gilligan's Island was anything but realistic, I've met pleny of girls who walk, talk, and act just like Mary-Ann. Maybe women have evolved since the 60's, but I think there are still plenty of Mary-Ann types walking around. I, however, have never met anyone who talked or acted the way that the Howells acted, and to a lesser extent, the way the Professor and Ginger acted as well. To me, Mary-Ann was more real than any of them.

I think Sherwood Schwartz's objective was initially to put together a group of individuals that would represent a microcosm of what our society is, in general. However, this idea went way over the heds of the eecutives at CBS, and it ended up just being a silly sitcom.
