My Big Fat Greek Life will be starting ext weekend. Im all excited, and Im a guy. I enjoyed the movie and if it stays true to the charactesr int eh movie and it still is clean as the movie and the they have the same writing style like int eh movie, it should be good.

I hope it's good as well. You know, it's funny how some critics panned the movie for being a bit like a sitcom. Now it's exactly like a sitcom.

The only problem I can see with this show is that it was created on the fast track after the success of the movie. That's not always good.

This is true. They really rushed this show through production. I hope they took the time to come up with an interesting storyline, a solid cast, and funny dialogue. Coasting on the name of a hit movie alone will not mean instant success in the sitcom world.

Ever see the spinoff of "A League Of Their Own?"

From what I heard, almost the entire cast from the movie is returning for the TV show. So at least that's good.

I thought the movie was pretty good and maybe the tv series will be too. Hopefully it will be a sucess and will be able to last awhile

Heres a review from IMDB.com:

I recently attended the taping of the pilot of "My Big Fat Greek Life." Before commenting on the show, I must say it was really nice to see all (or rather most) of the characters of the movie on the set.

The show picks up where the movie left off, as Nia and Thomas (known as Toula and Ian in the movie - a small change) return from their honeymoon in Athens and it's supposed to lead up to the time of their 6 year old daughter. As mentioned before, all the movie characters are there, with the exception of the husband, who's played by Steven Eckholdt.

Other than that, this specific episode was in fact quite funny. But nothing too funny. Don't get me wrong, some scenes were HILARIOUS, especially those referring to the greek traditions, but you can only make so many jokes about cooking lamb, ya know?

To sum up, it won't be to hard for this show to pick up from the movie's success. The only question is, how long will it last?

Actually, Nia Vardalos had always wanted to turn the movie into a sitcom, even before the movie was released. A pilot was shot last spring for CBS, but CBS rejected it. Vardalos was the only movie cast member in the first pilot, although Steven Eckholdt, who plays the husband in the series, was also in that first failed pilot. When CBS saw how successful the movie was, they asked for another pilot with as much of the movie cast as possible. CBS was happy with the second pilot and picked the show up for midseason. So, the show has really been almost a year in the making.

I just think of all the sitcom spinoffs from big movies that came before... and two pilots... I wish this show luck. I don't want to see a Big Fat Failure.

Hey, that's nothing. "All in the Family", "Three's Company", and "The Love Boat", each had three pilots apiece!

But those exceptions aside, I agree - not a great sign. The movie-to-TV-series curse doesn't help much, either.
