I really want to come across a detailed and accurate episode guide for Sanford and Son someday with listings of guest stars. |

OK. So you see these errors. Why don't you e-mail me and alert me to that fact????? I am the editor of the Sanford & Son section and am for a number of TV shows. Finding errors is hard. TELL ME, Please! It lists me as an editor and I have my e-mail listed in my profile. As for SOLOMON's statement: Mine is working it's way to be the most detailed available. But some people are impatient. Don't you realize, to be accurate it will take time to watch every episode to verify writers/directors and guest stars???? And the site is pronounced as TV Tome, not TV To Me. Tome rhymes with home. |

When I say accurate I mean a full description of each episode. And there were a lot of episodes that had no description. Also it was said that Redd Foxx was absent from 15 episodes instead of 5. So i was a little confused. |

How can accurate mean detailed?? Mean what you say. Well, I'm not one for full descriptions that ruins it for people who haven't seen the episode. Where does it say Redd was absent from 15 episodes. He was actually gone from 9. If I'm to correct this, I need to know where it is? (The site is down right now as of 10:20PM Central time) |

I don't see it on there no more-but at one time it said he was absent for 15 episodes. Now you are saying he was absent from 9 and someone else told me he was absent the last 5 episodes of the 73-74 season. So i keep hearing different things. |

Solomon,I found out that Redd wasn't in the episode "Fred's Treasure Garden",the episode about the wild parsley that they all think is marijuana, that was in late 1974,and the pilot to the Grady TV Show that aired on Sanford and Son definitely didn't feature Fred and that one was in early 1975. So that brings the total to 7,so whether Redd was in another contract dispute between late 1974-early 1975 may be a possibility!!! So Boechner may be right about 9 episodes,I'll keep checking some more about the other two episodes that Redd might not have been in. If so, I'll post it later on.

Damn, I used to have a TVL ep guide printed out when TVL first aired the show and I could've checked to see how many eps Redd didn't appear in. I don't think I have it anymore. Uh, I'll check. If I find it, I'll post again. |

Solomon, I just found out about the two other episodes that Redd wasn't in,both aired in late 1974 and they were:
A Little Extra Security(aired in December 1974): When Grady finds out that he gets an extra Social Security Check and blows it in Las Vegas (Redd wasn't in that one) Once A Thief(aired also in December 1974): Grady learns that Lamont's friend is an ex-con(Another one without Redd) So it was definitely 9 episodes as Boeschner said in his post last night: The last 5 episodes of the 1973-1974 season,Fred's Treasure Garden,A Little Extra Security,Once A Thief, and the pilot to the Grady TV Show that aired on Sanford and Son. I don't know why Redd wasn't in some of the early shows in the 1974-1975 season, but I know after Once A Thief and the Grady TV Show pilot, Redd aired in every episode after that. |

If you put the episodes in production order (the order that TV Land airs them), you can see where Redd left and returned.
0318: The Party Crasher (Redd Foxx DOES appear in this episode) 0319: No episode (perhaps it was skipped due to Redd's absence) Episodes WITHOUT REDD: 0320: Lamont Goes Karate 0321: Will the Real Fred Sanford Please Do Something? 0322: Tyranny, Thy Name is Grady 0323: Aunt Esther and Uncle Woodrow Pffttt.. 0324: The Way to Lamont's Heart 0325: Hello, Cousin Emma ... Goodbye, Cousin Emma 0401: Fred's Treasure Garden 0402: Once a Thief 0403: A Little Extra Security I'm thinking he was still in contract negotaions at the beginning of the 4th season. First episode that Redd appeared in after hiatus: 0404: There'll Be Some Changes Made (Redd Foxx has returned) As far as I know, the rest of the 4th season Redd does appear in all the episodes except 0424 The Family Man, which is the pilot to Grady. |

What about The Surprise Party episode where Fred comes back from St. Louis and gives everybody cheap gifts??? Where does that fit in the production order??? Because in the episode they said that he was coming back from St. Louis and everybody gave Fred a surprise party. In the Columbia House Video collection it says it first aired on September 13th,1974,which meant that it was the first episode of the 4th season. The Party Crasher episode was where Fred makes his famous onion stew and goes over Rollo's house and Lamont and Rollo are entertaining their girlfriends and Fred crashes the party, and I think that aired not too long before the contract dispute, and also I didn't know about the Lamont Goes Karate episode so that brings the total to 10,the number of episodes that Redd wasn't in.

Also, I went to the TV TOME site, and saw that the production order of each episode is all mixed up(example The Surprise Party, the first show of the 4th season is production 409),and all the other episodes are all different, instead of having it production numbers 401,402,403,and so on. Why is that???

The Surprise Party was obviously filmed out of production order. It must've have been filmed AFTER the first few episodes of Season 4 because they needed a way to explain Redd/Fred coming back home, which they obviously didn't have. So, that would explain why the episode airs several episodes in PRODUCTION (Production order is the order in which the episodes are FILMED/TAPED, a lot of times, networks air the shows out of order, which can be very confusing, but most cable channels air shows in the order they were originally FILMED - I know, it's confusing) ORDER.
I hoped I helped explain this some.

This whole absence thing is confusing. I thought Fred's first appearance after his contractual disputes was in the episode Surprise Party? |

This wouldn't be so confusing if NBC had aired the episodes in the order they were taped. TVJunkie101 summed it up best. The production order is the order they were taped. NBC decided not to air them in that order. However, TV Land has decided to air the episodes in production order, which is the order that most local stations air the episodes. So for you the viewer the most important things to realize is: 1. Most episode guides list the episodes in airdate order. 2. The airdate order is not the order they were taped or filmed. 3. TV Land airs the episodes of Sanford & Son in production order (the order they were taped). |
