The TV Land Awards: A Celebration of Classic TV premieres on TV Land and simulcast on Nick at Nite on WEDNESDAY, March 12 (9:00-11:00 pm ET/PT. The show has moved from the previously announced date of Sunday, March 9.
TV Land's first ever awards show, hosted by Emmy-award winning actor John Ritter, recognizes the best and brightest stars and shows from television's rich history. This two-hour celebration is presented by Chevy Trucks and in part by Revlon. GROUNDBREAKING ROLE AWARD This award is presented to an actor who changed the course of television history with a memorable, groundbreaking character. TV Land recognizes Diahann Carroll's portrayal of Julia for this year's award. In Julia, Diahann Carroll broke ground as the first African-American actress to star in her own series as a professional, independent woman. Carroll's character was a strong, hard-working Vietnam War-widow who moved to Los Angeles with her young son to pursue a successful career as a nurse. Carroll's portrayal paved the way for African-American actresses and helped open the door for new roles and opportunities that were previously unavailable due to racial bias and unfair stereotyping.
