I have written three FOL fanfics, and none of them have Blair in an abusive relationship. I just didn't see her character developing that way...some people see it differently. I personally thought Blair had too much self-respect to let that happen to her. I have read some good fanfics that have Blair in an abusive relationship though. Those fanfics attract readers because they have a lot of emotion and deal with serious issues. I think it is good when writers tackle serious issues in fanfics as long as they do it in a mature and appropriate way.

I know that the reason that I have covered it is that
unfortunately abuse is a fact of life. Usually, it is the
people that you would never suspect would allow
themselves to fall into that situation. Blair is the last
person you'd expect so she has the highest potential
for finding herself in that situation. Her high school
popularity makes her even more susceptable. Many
times when someone has a really good situation
(high school and college for Blair) and it ends the
person is plagued with self doubt. A person with
a high level of self doubt can easily fall into a
manuplative relationship. I just feel that abuse has
really been a taboo subject, and now people are
feeling the need to shed some light. I think that we
all want to warn younger girls about all types of abuse
be it mental, emotional, physical, or even sexual. The
end result of the stories I've read with Blair being
abused always end with her out of the situation. That
is the important message, life doesn't end if you leave
a guy that is treating you badly, it actually improves.
One last note, even the show covered abuse and had
Blair at the stories center, the only difference is that they
covered psychological abuse while most abuse stories
here have covered physical.

I believe the episode was entitled "Magnificent Obsession." Blair claimed to be in love with a boy who did nothing but find fault with her. It was a very good and powerful episode. She wanted to badly to please him. He cheated on her in front of her face, yet he begged for her back and she was willing to go. Fortunately Mrs. G and the girls, especially Jo, talked some since into her.

Well, it is a "fact of life" and if you have such a big problem with it the solution is simple, just dont read those fics. But, some people enjoy reading those types of fics or gather valuable information from them.

I've written about... uh... *thinks* a lot of fanfics on this board, even though not recently.. and I've never covered abuse. But I remember how about a year ago or maybe two, whenever the board started up, there were a few Blair abuse stories, but never anyone else. I guess it's because Jo's the kind of character who wouldn't take that kind of stuff, if you know what I mean, and as far as Nat and Tootie go, I've never really thought about that. But they're really interesting fanfics to read.. and in a way they're, like Lauren said, helpful.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
