Default Indebth reply to your question.

Gbscott, Jo_pol only asked why you're interested in the subject. I don't think that makes Jo_ Pol an anarchist freak. You and I have disagreed a few times but I commend you for showing an interest in this subject and sharing it with us. The best and most complete way that I can answer your question, and further the discussion, is to ask you and all others on the board to go to <truthout.com> and read a six part article by Jennifer Van Bergen - writer, attorney, editor, faculty member at the New School for Social Research - addressing why "The USA Patriot Act" should be repealed. Here are some excerpts:

In terms of undermining government efforts, Attorney General Ashcroft made perfectly clear he would interpret any public debate or dissent as just that, when he said such public discussion would "erode our national unity ... diminish our resolve ... give ammunition to American enemies, and pause to American friends."

The USA Patriot Act tranforms publicly beneficial discussion into a crime and turns our law enforcements' slightest fears into acts of oppression against their own people.

A free and open society is the true antidote to terrorism. This neither requires blind self-exposure to danger nor blind policing.

Prepare now to carry on a great American tradition: find out what your goverment is up to, so you can form your own opinion and talk about it with friends, relatives and so on.

It just seems like that's all you ever post about. I was just wondering. I'm sorry if I made it sound like that, but it was 5:00 in the morning, and well... I'm not too pretty at that ungodly time of the morning.

I think they could do better without infringing on our rights.

Yeah, M8 did it and doesn't want us to know! I'm kidding M8. Someone must have answered the poll. When someone answers a poll in a thread the thread gets bumped.

Angry

At least someone agrees with me about the continuing argument and butting heads between federal(mainly the FBI, with DEA coming a close second), state, city, and county law enforcement. Somebody needs to be a peacemaker!!

I think that if you think the city, county, and/or state law enforcement was bad, the feds are much, much more worse. They violated people's constitutional and/or civil rights and the sad part about this whole tragedy is that the US Government walks away with only a slap on the wrist and gets away with everything. If they are policing the state, county, and/or city law enforcement, somebody needs to police the feds like the FBI, DEA, ATF, Secret Service among others. Also, the state and local authorities do all the hard work and the feds take all the glory and credit.
