Confused Is going to church mandatory?

I have a rift in my job which is the church. My boss wasn't there, but many will ask me "why weren't you at church"?

I don't wanna say "because the church is going in the wrong direction"...but I feel that it is!

I saw two members that are probably ex-members who told me "we are going to other churches"...we now have a cop that goes to church. He's a member, but many feel uncomfortable or displeased on having a cop at a church. I support the cop since they gamble with life and the cop at the church isn't a bad guy...I've talked to him more than once.

But every time I see something old gone from my church, it looks like they care less about the past! The past builds people...my church is doing what Disney now is doing with Song of the South...according to Disney now, it doesn't exist because of stereotypes!

This sermon always encourages me because sometimes two people talking about Jesus IS the Church!...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj2bm5-PMAI

PS-Going to church doesn't make you a Christian...talking to someone about Jesus to a stranger who doesn't know about Christianity and having a relationship with Jesus no matter what makes you a Christian!

I look at it this way, church isn't for everyone because you can be a Christian and not attend church. However, in some instances, I think church should be mandatory. I don't know about your specific situation but I know where I attend church people that work there have to be churchgoers. I normally attend church but last year I was sick and missed a lot because of it. My pet peeve about this is that I taught religious education and many of the kids didn't attend church. Why attend religious ed then? To many of the parents they considered it a form of babysitting.

It's the same old dilemma: if the Church is too strict nobody will come through the door, and if it's too lax the diehards will accuse you of betrayal.

Wait, your job is at the church?
That is indeed a sticky situation, since any offices( I am presuming you work in the church offices in some aspect) connected to the church should be one and the same. Be on the same wavelength, to put it another way.
I would think it would be a natural thing for someone who works for the church would actually go to that church and share their views. Is there anything you remember from when you applied for the job which mentioned something like this being a requirement?

If you think the church is going in a wrong direction, you may find the conditions in your job going the same way, since they are so closely related.

You may want to start looking for another job. And for that matter and perhaps even more importantly, another church.

Jesus did say that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath (Mark 2:27) and with the pace of life today who can blame families for trying to have some quality time one day per week? On the other hand it is nice to be part of a community which cares, notices when members are absent and says prayers for those who are sick.

no, it's not mandatory. My brother and I are both catholic and we only go at Christmas.

Thanks...

Because my church IS going in a bad direction...I also dislike that now we must pray at this certain time of day...I feel that's a cult-ish ordeal!

If I lose my job which is the church...I'll leave in a way that no one will hear about it...

That's scary that you have to pray at a certain time. If you don't mind me asking, exactly what religion are you?

God hears you whenever you want to talk to him. The door is always open, not just at certain times.

I'm a Lutheran...or known as Diet Catholic.

And with prayer...it's an option to pray...the Apostle Paul even said in I Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray Without Ceasing"!

Oh No Two things...

One...

As of May 11th...I'm resigning from my position as a custodian...job or no job, I'm done with the place I'm working at! My own pastor insisted that I shovel the snow because someone else was doing it! He said "we're paying you to do that"! Yeah...Underpaid!

He's my boss and I should respect him...I was gonna shovel the snow at 11 a.m., but nooooo...I had to do it now! He even hated the tone I gave him! And this is a preacher that can't preach out of a paper bag!

Leading to the second thing...

My own pastor didn't even say the scripture verse of why 1:26 p.m., I had to find that out myself! Which I did, and here it is!...

Psalm 126 New International Version (NIV)
Psalm 126
A song of ascents.
1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of[a] Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.[b]
2 Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
3 The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.

4 Restore our fortunes,[c] Lord,
like streams in the Negev.
5 Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy.
6 Those who go out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with them.

My church is missing something...I'm underpaid, underappreciated, and I've done more and is VERY aware than the ones who just stay in the church office!

So if you have a maintenance man working at your temple, he is required to go to synagogue? Stupid. Just do your job. You're not required to do anything else.

תודה toda...or as in English...Thanks!

I should be treated like an equal there, NOT as a *****!

If my dad doesn't have to do the music there on Sunday...I won't be there! I even called the other janitor if he was doing okay since he wasn't at church last Sunday...did the office staff do that? I dunno, but...I feel that's what Jesus would do for someone he didn't see...

This scenario has gone TOO far! With them It's "**** or get off the pot"!

I'm TOO constipated to ****, so It's time to get off that damn throne!...

The point is: have you got another job lined up first? If not it's better to say sorry, that you were too hasty and will they have you back..

I haven't resigned yet...but I told my job coach that I'll try to be gone this May.

Though I read Psalm 126, I prefer the final Psalm, which is Psalm 150...

Psalm 150
1 Praise the Lord.[a]

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.

6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord.

God Gave Rock and Roll to Us!...
