This is the northern terminus of Interstate 269 in Collierville, Tennessee. I-269 is an as-yet incomplete outer beltway around Memphis that will extend in to Mississippi.

This is the western terminus of Interstate 276, which is part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Interstate 76 runs concurrently with the Pennsylvania Turnpike from the Ohio border to this point, where it veers off toward Philadelphia along the Schuylkill Expressway. The Pennsylvania Turnpike - and I-276 - go onto New Jersey.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Delaware Expressway in Bucks County, Pennsylvania currently don't connect. The connection between the two is currently being built, so that Interstate 95, which runs on the New Jersey Turnpike north of its junction with I-287 in New Jersey, will be one unbroken highway from Florida to Maine, turning east from the new junction along the Pennsylvania Turnpike and connecting with the New Jersey Turnpike. I-95 currently runs up from Philadelphia and crosses the Delaware River into into New Jersey northwest of Trenton, where it is discontinued. It was supposed to run to the west of the New Jersey Turnpike and connect with the turnpike at exit 10 (where I-287 junctions with the turnpike), then head along the turnpike to the George Washington Bridge. But the proposed freeway, which would have run through Somerset County, New Jersey, was stopped by local activists. Hence the Pennsylvania Turnpike - Delaware Expressway connection. Why not run I-95 along the entire New Jersey Turnpike, routing it over the Delaware Memorial Bridge from Wilmington, and renumbering all of I-95 through Pennsylvania? The government decided that I-95 should run through Philadelphia, because that city needs a north-south mainline through it. (No city needs an expressway through it, but too late, it's already there.)

The photo above shows the rendering of the future connection; the photo below shows the construction of the connection.

This is the western terminus of Interstate 278 in Linden, New Jersey. I-278 crosses over into Staten Island via the Goethals Bridge and snakes its way through all five boroughs of New York City. (Yes, even Manhattan, through Wards and Randalls Islands via the Robert F. Kennedy Triborough Bridge.) I-278 was intended to connect with Interstate 78 through Union County, New Jersey or east of the Williamsburg Bridge, where I-78 would have crossed from Manhattan via the Lower Manhattan Expressway from the Holland Tunnel to the Williamsburg Bridge. Neither freeway was built, and so, despite having four spurs to its number in New York State, I-78 connects with none of them.

This is the eastern terminus of Interstate 278 in the Bronx. I-278 follows old expressways built by Robert Moses before the Interstate Highway System was conceived; many of these expressways aren't up to Interstate standards. In the fie boroughs, I-278 is known by many names - the Staten Island Expressway, the Gowanus Expressway in South Brooklyn, Brooklyn Queens Expressway (or the "B.O.E", and the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx. But, except for its short dogleg in New Jersey, I-278 is known by the names, not the number. New York City residents don't use highway numbers in the five boroughs. So don't ask for directions to I-278 if you're driving trough the city.
