Andy Kaufman in 1978. Nineteen seventy-eight was a banner year for way-out comedy - Steve Martin's "King Tut," Robin Williams' new sitcom "Mork and Mindy," and the debut of "Taxi," featuring Andy Kaufman as Latka in the ensemble cast!

For my 4,000th post, I almost considered starting a whole new thread celebrating my 4,000th post. Instead I'm going to post this link, just in case it's forbidden from the Pictures of Beautiful Women thread:

Hey Steve, I've got a road scene for you. It's Montauk Highway (formerly NY 27 and later 27A, now Suffolk CR 80 in this part) in South Haven, New York back when Gerard Road still had an intersection with it, and before Sunrise Highway was built through the area, thus eliminating that intersection.

Don't worry though. Gerard Road has ended at Victory Avenue, the two-way service road on the north side of Sunrise Highway between William Floyd Parkway and Horse Block Road since the late-1950's.

Cool picture! I'll bet that area doesn't look as nice now as it did then.

Yeah, go ahead and post that Zooey Deschanel picture on the beautiful-women thread - no worries!

Well, it did have some trees in the median of Sunrise Highway for a long time (a, la Southern State Parkway near Belmont Lake State Park), but those trees are dying. The north side of that road (on the lower right corner) is part of South Haven County Park, and the south side (to the left) is primarily the Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge.
