Default Christopher Columbus Statue's Next

On August 19 2017 a rally was held in Columbus, Ohio at City Hall.
The purpose of the rally was for the removal of a statue of Christopher Columbus that stands in front of city hall.

Madderest

These statue-removal incidents have never been about opposing slavery or subjugation of races or ethnic groups, but about the erasure of history.

...and the people who protest have no job and all the time in the world to create problems where none really exist in the first place. They don't contribute anything real to society except complaining about something they don't agree with.

Last time I checked we're not all supposed to agree about the same things....that's what makes us human...that's what makes us unique as individuals. Why not just follow the old saying, "agree to disagree"?

CORRECT!

Is this the "Fundamental Change" that Obama promised 8 years ago?

I don't normally comment on the politics boards but the recent statue removals and protests are just getting ridiculous.

It'll be the big thing until something new comes along to distract these protesters. After all, their attention spans are shot.

It's ridiculous because in the town next to mine, we have a showboat with Robert E. Lee's name on the front of the boat. It's being removed soon because of the stupid PCness going on. It was part of my, and many of my friends' childhoods. Ridiculous and tragic that parts of who we are are being yanked away from us without us having so much as a say about it, and absolutely no one taking time to explain to us why this being done. Sad.

Honestly, I don't get these removals to be honest. Just seems dumb to me. Was Columbus a bad guy? I suppose it depends on one's opinion but things were different then. Yes George Washington owned slaves but he deserves respect as the first president. I think schools today go too far in saying how bad slave owners were. yes, slavery is bad and we know that now, but back then it was common and expected in many cases. History happened and we need to use it to teach about the past and how it affects the future.

This Destalinize-style **** in the United States should better stop now!

Otherwise I'll move to Italy since I feel that I live in the USSR...not the USA!

Funny how no one's talking about Russia anymore, right? The lefties in the media and politics are just trying to find the biggest stick to try to beat Trump with.

You're absolutely right. They don't really care about the statues. They just see an issue that can be cleverly twisted to further their agenda. An issue that all of a sudden is the most pressing thing in the world.

The mayor of NYC is considering removing the statue of Christopher Columbus!

I have a Puerto Rican neighbor who has Native American blood and refused to celebrate Columbus Day because they see him as the first Conquistador.

Now American Indians should be weary about many of the Spanish Explorers since Spain during the Renaissance was brutal...even Jews and Protestants would never expect The Spanish Inquisition...

NOBODY EXPECTS The SPANISH INQUISITION!!!

What the ****?! But anyhow...we now have snowflake out there crucifying Columbus for all the bad he's done, but will praise Che Guerva though he was as bas as Christopher Columbus...if not worse!
