Exclamation After Intense Scrutiny, Pres. Trump Directly Condemns White Supremacists

White House: Trump’s Condemnation includes "White Supremacists, KKK, Neo-Nazi and all Extremist Groups"
by Jenna Johnson and Karoun Demirjian
August 13, 2017

In a statement on Saturday, President Trump said, “We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides.

He then added for emphasis: “On many sides.

The White House said in a statement Sunday that when President Trump condemned “all forms of violence, bigotry and hatred” that were on display in Charlottesville this weekend “of course that includes white supremacists, KKK, Neo-Nazi and all extremist groups.

The White House’s clarification stopped far short of what a growing number of Republicans have urged the president to do: directly call out and condemn white supremacy.

And three of Trump's top advisers appeared on Sunday morning news shows to defend the vague statement that the president delivered the previous afternoon at his private golf club in New Jersey, although their messaging shifted as the morning progressed.

Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter and a top adviser, broke with her father’s messaging Sunday morning to tweet: “There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis.

National security adviser H.R. McMaster said on ABC News that the president was “very clear” in his statement and “called out anyone, anyone who is responsible for fomenting this kind of bigotry, hatred, racism and violence.

Later in the morning, McMaster added on NBC News that it “ought to be clear to all Americans” that Trump’s comments about bigotry and hatred included white supremacists and neo-Nazis. He also said that he considers the death of a counter-protester in Charlottesville on Saturday an act of terrorism.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said on CBS News that the president was “specific,” “very clear” and, “frankly, pretty unambiguous” in responding to the violence.

He added: “When someone marches with a Nazi flag, that is unacceptable, but I think that’s what the president’s saying.

And Tom Bossert, Trump’s homeland security adviser, who has been in direct contact with Charlottesville authorities, repeatedly praised the president on CNN for not naming the groups that were involved and instead focusing on an overarching call for Americans to love one another.

Bossert said that people “on both sides” showed up in Charlottesville “looking for trouble” and that he won't assign blame for the death of a counter-protester on either group, although he said the president would like to see “swift justice” for the victim.

After repeated questioning, Bossert did say that he personally condemns “white supremacists and Nazi groups that espouse this sort of terrorism and exclusion.” He did not say whether the president agrees with him on that.

The president not only condemned the violence and stood up at a time and a moment when calm was necessary and didn't dignify the names of these groups of people, but rather addressed the fundamental issue,” Bossert said on CNN's “State of the Union.” “And so … what you need to focus on is the rest of his statement.

While Bossert acknowledged that white supremacy is a problem in the country, he quickly shifted to talking about the greater threat of “a global jihadi terrorist problem.

Donald Trump Declares KKK, Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists “Criminals and Thugs” in Charlottesville Statement Do-Over
by Lisa de Moraes
August 14, 2017

Racism is evil, and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, Neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans,” President Donald Trump said this afternoon, in a better-late-than-never condemnation of those who staged the violent rally in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.

Those who spread violence in the name of bigotry strike at the core of America,” said Trump in brief remarks at the White House, taking no questions from reporters. The president returned to Washington from his Jersey White House/golf club for part of today.

The Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation into the deadly car attack that killed one innocent person and injured 20 others… To anyone who acted criminally in this weekend’s racist violence, you will be held accountable,” Trump said.

He began his remarks boasting about the stock market and the economy, before getting to his do-over on addressing the weekend’s violence, in which a woman protesting the rally was killed by an Ohio man who had told his mother he was going to Charlottesville to attend a pro-Trump rally. James Alex Fields Jr. has been charge with second-degree murder.

Trump spoke of the victim, Heather Heyer, who died when Fields was caught on video appearing to deliberately plow his vehicle into a group of people protesting the rally. Trump also paid tribute to two Virginia state troopers who died on the job over the weekend. Those three victims, Trump said, “exemplify the very best of America and our hearts go out to their family and friends.

Trump’s do-over remarks came in response to crushing public pressure, after failing to a deliver a full-throated condemnation of the violent weekend that began as a protest of Charlottesville’s plans to remove a statue of a Confederate statue. Among rally organizers: Trump champion and former KKK chief David Duke, who had told reporters they were “taking back” the country per Trump’s campaign promises.

On Saturday, Trump got blasted by media and even some Republic lawmakers for his “many sides” statement on the Charlottesville violence.

President Trump is the only one with the courage to point out the violence and hate of BOTH sides in Charlottesville! Both sides had sticks, bottles , rocks and spit. Yes! They spit on each other! I want the President not only to call out the nazis, but the ANTIFA as well! This hate has to stop. If you call out only one side, as the media and the Gov of Virginia did, you are only emboldening the haters on the other side!

Too bad Trump didn't mention that the white supremacists are the ones who incited violence in the first place.

It never fails to amaze me when they say they are all the same. They aren't, the KKK has a history of murder in the US and while the neo Nazis' to my knowledge haven't committed mass murder here, the Nazis killed millions in Europe. When I read how the woman was attacked made me horrified.

The ANTIFA and BLM have rioted, burned and looted from Berkeley to Baltimore. They are responsible for deaths of police, including 5 in Dallas alone. Funny, liberals paint ALL the people at that rally, defending the statues that the liberal Taliban wants to tear down as "Nazis" and "KKK", even though they were a tiny, unwanted part, but they will quickly say that the other side were "normal" people with a few sore heads mixed in. After every leftist riot the fake news says "It was a mostly peaceful protest". Did anybody here see the video of he ANTIFA tearing down a civil war statue yesterday? They pulled it down, then kicked and SPIT on it!!! How much crazy hate do you have in your soul to kick and spit on a STATUE??? If you think they are heroes, I feel sorry for you. Nazi, ANTIFA, KKK, BLM, all cut from the same hateful cloth in my book.
BTW Antifa and BLM instigated the violence at that rally. They had no permit, they showed up just to spit on and throw things at people, including the police. The next day they took their hate show to Seattle wher they injured more police and threw more ballons filled with urine.

I'm not talking about what a handful of kooks do, I am talking about the groups like the KKK and their history. One can't compare them. I didn't defend anyone, I was talking about how the Daily Stormer, a racist website, attacked the victim.
