Just out of curiosity, is your name Penny Lane rather than Abbey Road because the first one was happier sounding?

Actually I chose Penny Lane because it sounds more like a real name. I was also thinking about Eleanor Rigby but that was too depressing. Yes Penny Lane does have a happy sound to it!

Yeah, Eleanor Rigby was a great song, but such a downer!!

I remember a while back when you said you didn't like some of the lyrics to "I Am the Walrus", a song I always thought was clever and different--until there was a rather disturbing line that made me think, ahhh, the Fab Four shouldn't have gone over the top with that one....

The Beatles were more fun when it was all GOOD DAY SUNSHINE!!!

Eleanor Rigby is one of my favorites(it's really hard to choose a favorite!) I once read that Paul got the name from a headstone. I hope that the real Ms. Rigby had a happier life!

And yes, the problem I
have with I Am The Warus is that disgusting line "Yellow matter custard
Dripping from a dead dog's eye."Was that really necessary?!

Yeah, when I began to think about that line, I thought, urgh, those guys NEED to lay off the drugs!!! We know they were pushing boundaries with a lot of things back then, but wow, that REALLY pushed the envelope!!

The Beatles weren't ALWAYS so squeaky clean!! The Rolling Stones got the reputation for being the bad boys back then, but there were a lot of things going on with the Fab Four!! There was an album cover with gory doll parts, which is probably their way of saying, "Blimey, we don't want to be typecast as the nice blokes!!!"

Btw, guess who was the biggest contenders to The Beatles' fame back then in England? Who were their hitmaking rivals?

OK, I'll take a stab at it.

The Dave Clark Five or Herman's Hermits?
