Angry Norm's new sitcom is shelved

This was first announced in March, but NBC has terminated prodution of Norm's new sitcom "Leave Me Alone." The reason is because of quarrels between the network and the production company (Happy Madison) over future syndication rights. NBC wants to make such a large profit from the show's potential rerun market that the cast and crew could end up getting small residuals. For more details, you can click on to the Norm e-zine: http://www.fakenews.net

The producers are trying to sell the show to another network, even though it won't be easy since NBC owns the script for the LMA pilot. If there's no update on this situation by now, chances are it's not being picked up by another network.

However, I want to make this very clear so that none of you are mislead: the current status of Leave Me Alone DOES NOT mean that the show will never materialize at all. (It could turn up on another network or that it could end up in first-run syndication, a la Xena or Charles In Charge.) It's just that there is little or no hope of seeing that show on the fall 2002 schedule

I still think it might happen. There was a show last year where the same thing happened but it came back this year...

Of course it happened again...

I feel the same way. But as I indicated in my previous post, the current status of Leave Me Alone does not mean that, in a year or so, the show will never be produced. It's just that it's not going to materialize in the immediate future.

So there is still hope of it being made. In fact, some TV series took years to come about. One perfect example is the detective drama The Equalizer. The idea for that series was first proposed to CBS in 1980, but rejected. Luckily though, with new CBS management, the network reconsidered in 1985 (five years later). So there's always a chance that Leave Me Alone could have a similar miracle. And let's pray that it happens.

I think LMA has the potential to be the Odd Couple of the new millennium.

Norm MacDonald is one of the most misunderstood comedians of this generation. The Norm show was hillarious! Leave Me Alone would've probably been the breakout show for the fall season. I'm sure a network starving for a sitcom hit like ABC or FOX would love to get their hands on it.

I feel the same way (and I mentioned that in another post on this message board). He has made many of us laugh, but he is still misunderstood. I personally people (especially Norm's naysayers) would learn to shut their mouths about thing they don't understand.

Believe me, I know the pain of being misunderstood.

That's not your site? I thought you ran the Poltergeist, Bad News Bears, Naked Gun sites (which are all brilliant by the way)? My apologies if you don't... It was a bad attempt at humor on my part - when you said you felt the pain of being misunderstood I laughed and thought about the ex-Burger King employee site. I'm sorry.

It's okay. If it's of any consolation, my question about whether you're on crack was a joke, too.

hey I'm an ex-McDonald's employee so I've got stories of my own, but I don't think it could be as bad as working at Burger King
