Default Stream-Me Cancels 2 series

Stream-Me Cancellations
---Younger Sisters, Promise Axed

Gen-TV Studios owned streaming site, Stream-Me (formerly Gen-TV Streaming, et al) has canceled two of their original series, according to a report from Hollywood Insider. The decision apparently comes down to a mix of economic factors, low viewership, and poor viewer feedback. The first series getting axed is pre-teen drama "Younger Sisters", a spin-off of "Sisters" which featured the characters from that show as pre-teens. Sources tell us that the tween drama never really connected with viewers and had low viewership for the site. A report from TV Ratings USA (a TV ratings company) tells us "Younger Sisters aired 50 episodes between 2016 and 2017 and never once did that series appear in the top 75 series aired on Stream-ME." "In fact, the highest it ever ranked was #85 (out of over 200 series)." More to the point, it seems to have missed the mark with its core demographic, pre-teens, where it appears to have been a complete failure. A recent survey done of teen viewing habits, suggests the series had no impact with female viewers aged 10-17, with only .62% indicating they had ever heard of the show and only.13% reporting they had actually watched the show.

Gen-TV Studios Vice President Alex Montez confirmed the cancellation of Younger Sisters and said "Younger Sisters was a creatively strong program that has simply never found an audience. We are heartbroken to cancel this series, but it is true that we have done just that."

Meanwhile, he is also confirming that they have pulled the plug of revived daytime soap "Promise of Tomorrow" which returned in 2016 on Stream-ME (instead of on Gen-TV Network, where the original aired) in the form of 20-minute webisodes (or mini-episodes). Featuring much of the original cast, the revival dubbed "Promise of Tomorrow 2.0" never gained much traction with viewers or critics who called them "fake soap operas" or "a huge let-down." 175 mini-episodes were produced and aired between October 2016 and May 2017.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN CANCELS TWO SERIES
YTN has pulled the plug on third-year comedy Friends of Mine, as well as long-running Raising Teenagers. Both comedies will finish their runs later this summer.

Cancelling two long-running series without giving them proper series finales shifts the narrative of YTN since its beginnings. The network has given every other series that has aired for at least four seasons a proper notice to write a series finale. Neither Friends of Mine, nor Raising Teenagers will have likely written a series finale, as production wrapped back in March on both series.

Friends of Mine kicked off as a midseason comedy to somewhat below average numbers. Despite that, it was the youngest-skewing comedy on the network and YTN was willing to wait and build an audience. That audience never built; instead it dropped by 20% in season two. Season three brought even more drops; down a nasty 35% during the fall (and even further this summer).

On the other hand, Raising Teenagers was a somewhat steady, but low-rated, performer for five seasons. It debuted in fall 2012 and averaged a 2.6 A18-49 for its first season - the lowest of any comedy for the network that season (not counting Friday nights The Life of Gary). The show aired only 18 episodes that season, but was later rewarded with full 26 episodes in seasons two through five.

Raising Teenagers will finish with 122 episodes and Friends of Mine with 68 episodes.

Meanwhile, the fate of Serial is still up in the air. The network is likely waiting for ratings results for tonights episode before making a decision.

Trauma Center News:
Judd Nelson Fired!
---Actor will leave series in big storyline

Hollywood Now has some upsetting news for fans of Gen-TV's "Trauma Center", especially those who are fond of Judd Nelson as Dr. Warton "Art" Adderson. Sources confirm to us that in an effort to keep the hit series fresh and relevant they are making some casting and creative changes. Now for the upsetting part; they have confirmed that the first of these changes is killing off Dr. Adderson and the exit of Nelson from the series. Nelson joined the series at the start of season two, taking his first series-regular role on TV since NBC's "Suddenly Susan" in the 1990's.

The decision to kill off this character was a difficult one, but a necessary one according to series executive producer David Aaman who says "Part of the story we have been telling since season 2 is about the difficult journey through recovery (from addiction), and we have been telling it through the eyes of Marjorie (played by MacKenzie Phillips)." "Our next evolution in this story is to show how Marjorie will cope with losing somebody who has been a source of strength for her and who helped get her through her most recent relapse." "For Marjorie having Art in her life was a huge reason for staying sober, and without his encouragement, she will have a difficult time of it."

For Mackenzie Phillips, who is a vocal and very public substance abuse survivor herself this story rings close to home and "is a very difficult, but very important step in telling Marjorie's story." "Marjorie's story is a story that many people go through, but it is one rarely ever explored on TV." For Nelson who was thoroughly enjoying the best reviews of his career and having a blast on the show, this exit is difficult to take and has left the actor feeling a little bitter about the way he was notified of his exit "I wasn't even given a warning ahead of time. I learned I would die by reading the script." The episode which features the demise of Art Adderson, one of the few totally virtuous characters on the show airs this Wednesday (June 28) on Gen-TV. And fans should expect a very upsetting death, Aaman says "Art isn't going to die in a peaceful way, it is going to be jolting and upsetting for the audience." Previewing the upsetting scene, Nelson says "essentially Art dies trying to help Marjorie rescue an addict friend and gets caught in the crossfires of a police drug bust and pays the ultimate price." "But before he dies he lingers for several episodes in a comatose state." This according to Phillips "is where Marjorie deals with her grief most profoundly, at his bedside begging him to survive and blaming herself."

But the exit of Nelson isn't the only creative change on the horizon for "Trauma Center" at all. Aaman says "we want to keep the series fresh and relevant so we will constantly be making changes." "Both in front of the camera and behind it." He says that perhaps the biggest change is going to be in the tone of the series which he says "will decidely get darker each season." "We found that it is difficult to do a show set in a trauma center without it having some realism to it." "we think that the dark storylines work for this show and that fans are responding to a show that is more realistic than most medical dramas are."

As for casting changes, he tells us that some others are possibly on the horizon and that the most pressing matter at this point is figuring out if Kyra Sedgwick who joined the cast last season as Dr. Anna Jefferies will be sticking around for season four, which debuts this fall. "Kyra is a very busy actress who is committed to other projects, (including fall drama series "Ten Days In The Valley" for ABC) and we just don't know if she'll be available for us in season four." "We'd love to have her, but we have no clue if she'll be free to film." But he assures us that "in any case we will not be killing Anna off, and will leave the door wide open for her return is we have to write her out." Aaman also says "Our cast changes won't only be people leaving, we also hope to expand the cast by adding additional characters, possibly a love interest for Schaech's character, Dr. Abrhams who he describes as "overdue for some love from a woman."

Default Mallory's of Jefferson County News

Breaking Gen-TV News:
Mallory's Contract Negotiations, End Date In Sight?

Gen-TV seems to be setting its sights on ending "The Mallory's of Jefferson County" as contract negotiations begin for the series which heads into its sixth season this fall. Sources tell us that these negotiations will be the roughest in the series history as ratings for the series are down from its early days, and a recent spin-off "The Malones" flatlined in the ratings. Coupled with huge salaries for its expansive cast and it seems trouble is in sight.

The main cast who are in active negotiations is Chris Pine, Tom Skerritt, William Devane, Raquel Welch, Donald Sutherland and Keifer Sutherland. Remaining cast members such as Gena Rowlands, Josh Charles, Leighton Meester and Lara Flynn Boyle are on a different contract cycle, having come onto the series later in its run.

Our sources tell us that Chris Pines salary and schedule are big factors in this round of negotiations, as his film schedule allows for little access to him, even though he is the main character on the show. Writers have worked around this in the past by writing for other characters, but this becomes more difficult each year. We are being told that Pine and his representatives are staying firm on wanting to secure a deal similar to the one he signed three years ago which allowed him preferential scheduling, a hefty pay raise, and a significant portion of the series back end, in addition to various other perks like a producing credit and duties in the writing room. Gen-TV evidently isn't keen on this and is looking to reduce is pay scale and have him on-set more often.

We also hear that Raquel Welch is unhappy with her limited storylines in the most recent seasons and is seeking an increase in her episode guarantee. It seems unclear if Gen-TV and producers can meet this however as her character has become less and less necessary to the story of the program, especially now that her main on-screen rival, Susan Sullivan has exited the program.

Another point of contention that is in need of a solution is the series future, particularly how many more seasons it will air. Though it is still the #1 rated series on TV by a wide margin, those ratings are falling fast and the series has seemingly peaked culturally as it has begun to lose its "cool appeal" and is now seen as a relic of the past. In a recent poll conducted of TV Viewers aged 18-34, "Mallory's" was ranked as the #2 "Least Trendy" show on TV. Our sources tell us that Gen-TV is anxious to keep the series on-air as long as it can, but that the producers are seeking a firm end date from the network sooner, instead of later. This is a point that will seemingly be unavoidable in the near future.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN RENEWS "SERIAL" FOR SIXTH SEASON
Defying long-odds, YTN has renewed serial killer drama Serial for a sixth season. No date has yet been announced for its return, although late midseason/summer 2018 is likely.

The series debuted at midseason in 2013 and has steadily declined over the course of its run; dropping 23%, 24%, and 17% in each season. Through the first six episodes of this season, Serial is down by more than 20%.

Although its another year of declines, this one is not as particularly worrisome for Serial. Airing during the summer season for the first time, and having been off the air for over a year, the decline could have been much more rapid. In fact, Serial has increased the time-period average of its timeslot by more than 20% compared to last years occupant (Living In Fear, which is now airing at 9 o'clock).

Serial will air 13 episodes once again next year. The network did not announce the renewal as a final season order.

Classics TV to premiere new show in July or August

A version of the popular late 90s Nickelodeon game show, Figure It Out, is set to premiere sometime in the month of either July or August, according to several reports. But this time, the panelists will be a mixture of kids, teens, adults, and the contestants will be classic celebrities from shows such as Night Court and The Brady Bunch. Summer Sanders, who hosted the original show, is planning on returning as host. The show will combine elements from What's My Line, To Tell The Truth, and I've Got A Secret. No date has been set yet, and the name of the show is to be announced later.

Mallory's News:
Raquel Welch Exits "Mallory's"

Raquel Welch will exit "Mallory's of Jefferson County" and will not appear in the upcoming sixth season of the series after contract talks reached an impasse that "could not be broached or fixed in any way." This comes just one day after news broke that Gen-TV was starting contract negotiations with the crew and cast of TV's #1 rated series.

Sources close to the situation tell us that as previously reported Welch was seeking a more prominent storyline and higher pay, a feat that Gen-TV was unable to guarantee for the veteran actress. She played the mistress of main character Robert Mallory II (William Devane), but hasn't had much screentime since season three, she has recurred since then, appearing about seven times since then. Her screentime drastically fell off when Susan Sullivan exited the series as Nancy Malone-Mallory, to join the cast of spin-off "The Malones", leaving her character without her main on-screen rival.

Sources tell us that this may just be the very first of many exits to come for Mallory's as contract talks heat up and Gen-TV is looking for ways to accommodate Chris Pine's pay raise request. An insider tells us "Keeping Chris Pine happy is the most important topic at Gen-TV right now. They will do whatever it takes to keep him on the show."

The #1 rated series on TV, "Mallory's of Jefferson County" debuted in June 2014 as a one-off mini-series but proved so popular it was extended into a full-fledged series that has routinely scored the highest ratings on TV. At its peak, it was reaching over 200 million viewers, and its current average is about 60 million viewers. It has remained the #3 rated show in the coveted 18-49 demo since June 2014. The series current contract cycle is due to expire on August 3, 2017 and Gen-TV is working overtime to reach a new deal sooner rather than later.

Breaking News:
Mass Exodus at "Mallory's of Jefferson County"
----Keifer Sutherland, Lara Flynn Boyle, others are OUT

It would appear that the upcoming sixth season of "Mallory's of Jefferson County" is going to be one of big change, as contract negotiations with several cast members end in failure. Following the exit of Raquel Welch, we have learned that Keifer Sutherland has also been fired from the program, with producer John Tram saying "We simply did not have a storyline for him anymore." Scheduling was also an issue for Sutherland as he is the star of ABC's "Designated Survivor" which was renewed for a second season in May.

Also exiting "Mallory's" are Lara Flynn Boyle and Joshua Bowman, both of whom joined the series in season four and who are said to have become victims of "lack of storylines." Bowman's character was heavily tied to the character of Nancy (Susan Sullivan) who exited the show last season and will not be returning. Boyle's character, simply never got utilized properly and will be dropped entirely.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

HOLIDAY SURPRISE: EVA VARGAS OUT AS YTN PRESIDENT
We have learned exclusively that YTN President Eva Vargas will resign as President of YTN and YTN Studios sometime later today. The decision to resign comes three months after Vargas was suspended by the company during an investigation by the FCC.

Vargas' contract runs through next June, and is paid $2.2 million per year + contract incentives. With her resigning, it is likely she will forfeit almost her entire salary for the year. Despite that, she does have many benefits attached to the job, including severance valued at around $1 million per year.

UPDATE: Insiders tell us YTN Corporation President Grayson Rogers asked for Vargas' resignation late last week. The relationship between the two has soured immensely since Rogers suspended Vargas for a month and a half. Vargas was reportedly upset that Rogers did not stick up for her in the battle of words with network rival GEN-TV.

UPDATE 2: It's official. Eva Vargas is OUT as YTN President after nearly six years at the helm of the network. Here is her statement:

Quote:
Hello Colleagues,

I write to inform you that as of today, I will be resigning as President of YTN and YTN Studios. The last five and a half years leading this network have been the best of my life, but I must now prepare for the next phase of my career.

I have been with YTN since the beginning and have formed relationships with many of you within the network. The success of YTN over the last decade has been because of you and your dedication to the network.

Best of luck,
Eva

UPDATE 3: Vice President Paul Johnson will be the Acting President of YTN and YTN Studios until a permanent replacement has been named. Grayson Rogers has not yet released a statement.

UPDATE 4: YTN Corp. President Grayson Rogers sent the following email to all YTN employees:

Quote:
Hello All,

As many of you are now aware, Ms. Vargas has decided to resign from her position as network and studio president, effective immediately.

The last six years under her leadership have been some of our strongest as a network. We will miss her at the helm and wish her the best of luck.

Despite her departure, the future is bright at YTN, and I am very excited to announce some leadership changes.

Effective immediately, Paul Johnson has been promoted to President of YTN and YTN Studios. Paul has been with YTN since the founding days of the network and began with his role as President of Network Scheduling. In 2014, he was promoted to Vice President and closely worked alongside Ms. Vargas for the last three years. We welcome him to his new position and look forward to many years of strength under his leadership.

Lindsey Parker will now serve as Vice President of YTN, also effective immediately. She was promoted to President of Network Scheduling upon the promotion of Mr. Johnson to Vice President. She joined YTN in 2013, as an intern in the scheduling department. Her quick rise in the ranks shows her dedication to YTN and making the network a success.

A new President of Network Scheduling will be named in the coming months. Paul and Lindsey will share the duties until a replacement is named.

Signed,
Grayson Rogers

Ross Chin's Statement on YTN Resignation:
Gen-TV's President has words for rival Eva Vargas

Ross Chin, President of Gen-TV Studios (and by association, Gen-TV Network) released a meaningful and surprisingly positive statement in response to the unexpected news that Eva Vargas has resigned from YTN Network after an explosive year of ups and downs for her. Chin, often cast as her rival offered words of support for Vargas, which may be surprising given their history.

Here is his full statement:
Quote:
"I, like many others in the entertainment industry was completely blindsided and shocked to learn that Eva Vargas has resigned from her position as President of YTN Network. While we have certainly had our tense moments and our words of disagreement it actually pains me to see Eva resign from a job that she was extremely skilled at." "Despite our difference of opinion on many topics the one thing that was always true is that we both have extreme mutual respect for each other." "Eva is one of the most talented executives working in television today and YTN is in the unenviable position of having to replace her. "

"While I am sure that Ms. Vargas has many valid reasons for leaving her role at YTN, I sincerely hope that our public disagreement did not play a part in this choice." "Though we disagreed, it has never been my intention to disparage or hurt Ms. Vargas at all, and certainly I never wished for her to lose her job." "In the spirit of decency, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Eva for any part I may have played in her decision to leave her job. I would also like to extend to her an offer of employment at Gen-TV Studios. She is a very talented person and would be an absolute asset to any company that she wishes to work at."

Ross Chin, the current President of Gen-TV Studios had a public spat with Ms. Vargas earlier this year which resulted in a series of media statements and accusations between Mr. Chin and Ms. Vargas. The result was that Ms. Vargas was suspended from her job. The incident stems from a disagreement over ratings information Ms. Vargas cited while touting her network's success, numbers that Mr. Chin took issue with.

Eva Vargas was previously approached by Gen-TV with a job offer but declined those offers. Only time will tell what happens from here, or what the future holds for Ms. Vargas.

Default Gen-TV Shake-Up?

Breaking News:
A Hurricane Headed for Gen-TV?

Is a hurricane of sorts headed to Gen-TV? If inside sources are to be believed then the answer is yes. Hollywood Insider is hearing that a shake-up within the executive leadership at Gen-TV is on its way. Rumors are rampant that the exit of Eva Vargas at YTN has left Gen-TV Executives desperate to hire her, and that in order to do so they may be willing to fire some of their current leadership. The person who should be most worried about their job? Alexander Anthony Montez (Alex Montez), the current Vice President of Gen-TV who has served in that role since May 1st. Our insiders tell us that nobody at the company is happy with his leadership and they feel he has not contributed anything of value to the company since he was hired.

"Alex should be terrified of losing his job in general, but if Eva is hired in any sort of leadership capacity than it would be almost certain he would be fired before she assumes her role." "Most likely he'd be replaced by Eva."

Believe it or not, it seems that the strongest advocate for Eva to be hired is Ross Chin, who she famously had words with months ago that resulted in her being temporarily suspended from her job. Our sources tell us that despite the harsh words of the past that Ross is a huge fan of her work and hopes to not only serve as a mentor to her but to also learn from her as well. "Ross believes that Eva would be a valuable asset to the company and will do anything to make it happen; even if that means backstabbing Alex to do so."

Default Stefan-Clarke diagnosed with cancer

In a somewhat unexpected turn of events; Gen-TV's current President, Suzanne Stefan-Clarke, 64 has announced that she will retire from Gen-TV and from the television industry all-together in May 2017.

This completely out of the blue decision was apparently made by Stefan-Clarke as she wishes to spend more time at home with her infant daughter. Sources say "Suzanne waited until much later in life to have children and now that she is a mother she wants to give all her attention to her daughter." The formal announcement was made by Stefan-Clarke on her Gen-TV Studios blog that read "It is with a lot of excitement and a little bit of sorrow that I announce my decision to retire from the television business in May 2017." "I started in the TV business decades ago when I was 22 and got my first job as an Intern at CBS News." "Since then I have worked long and hard and carved out a fascinating and satisfying career. I spent 25 years at HBO where I oversaw the development and production of numerous live concerts, comedy shows and theatrical productions. I have also spent over 5 years (on and off) at Gen-TV. I can honestly say that my career has been satisfying and I have nothing left to achieve." "I have worked my way up from intern to a network president. Now, I have to dedicated my time to a more challenging career; mother to Stefania Lynne Clarke." "I thank all my colleagues at Gen-TV and my former associates, friends and co-workers from HBO."

Stefan-Clarke was appointed President of Gen-TV in January 2017, following the death of Sylvia Wilkes-Sharpe. She was hired by Gen-TV in 2012 to oversee live & unscripted events, such as concerts and reality series for the network. She had spent over 25 years at HBO producing live music and comedy events.

At this point Gen-TV has not announced a successor for Stefan-Clarke, but if she has her way it will be Ross Chin, the current Vice President. Clarke says "Ross Chin is the future of Gen-TV; he has a clear vision and one that frankly will be very good for Gen-Tv." "I believe he is the ideal choice to fill my role as President of Gen-TV."

Suzanne Stefan-Clarke's Medical Crisis:
--Former Gen-TV President Diagnosed with cancer

Former Gen-TV President Suzanne Stefan-Clarke revealed today that she underwent treatment for two different types of cancer beginning last December. During an interview with ABC's "Good Morning, America" she revealed to JuJu Chang that last December she was diagnosed with stage IIa breast cancer, for which she underwent a round of chemotherapy and radiation. Clarke said "At 64 years old with zero family history, I found myself coming home from a routine mammogram with a diagnosis of potentially fatal breast cancer. I was in shock; no family history, consistently healthy my entire life, a new mother and now I have breast cancer." Unfortunately, Clarke's journey didn't end there, as chemo and radiation alone failed to get rid of (the) cancer and in March of 2017, she reveals "I underwent a radical bilateral (double) mastectomy, followed by the second round of chemo and radiation."

Following this step, Suzanne was given news that is almost too unbelievable to be real. Expecting a cancer-free report Suzanne was told that not only had the therapies failed to stop her breast cancer, but that she had also developed cervical cancer as well. "In addition to finding out that I'll have to continue fighting breast cancer, I found out that I also have cervical cancer." While her doctors give her a decent chance of beating the breast cancer, it seems less likely that she'll be able to be cured of her cervical cancer. " "In terms of pure statistics, the likelihood of surviving this form of cervical cancer, in this case, is not particularly good." "But you learn as you fight cancer that dealing only in numbers is not healthy. I have a fighting spirit in me that will continue to dominate and I plan on surviving long enough to see my daughter grow into an adult."
