Default Very Nice Girls Renewal

Gen-TV Studios News:
"Very Nice Girls" sold to WE TV

It has been a long road for Gen-TV's debutant themed reality pilot, now being called "Very Nice Girls: Manhattan Debutantes" which was first ordered to series back in 2015 and has been sitting on a shelf ever since it completed filming its freshman season back in April 2015. The series which has had several title changes and has been pulled from the schedule before airing several times has finally gotten a new lease on life. Gen-TV Studios has announced that WE TV (formerly Women's Entertainment Television) has bought the exclusive rights to the series and will start airing the series in November 2016.

Gen-TV's Ian Davidson said this "Very Nice Girls is a fantastic and engaging reality series that will have viewers glued to their seats, and we are desperately distressed we couldn't find a place for it on our schedule, but as other programming needs became a bigger priority we had no room for it." "We are proud that viewers will finally get a chance to see the show in all its fabulous glory as WE TV will broadcast the entire series back to back this November."

A spokesperson for WE TV said, "We are delighted to bring this fantastic and addictive reality program to our viewers and we believe it is going to become a standout hit for us." WE TV will air the show during a week-long marathon November 13th-19th, 2016, airing 25 episodes back to back during this week long marathon, and then in January 2017, they will debut the next run of 31 episodes. A network rep explains "When we saw the first 25 episodes that Gen-TV had produced in 2015 we were flabbergasted at the level of quality and entertainment we saw in them. We realized pretty immediately that we had a show with massive potential on our hands." "We ordered an additional 31 episodes beyond the original 25." "The first 25 episodes will air back to back in November, those episodes are the series official the first season, and the second run of 31 episodes produced by WE TV will be considered our official season two."

WE TV has reportedly paid 875,000 for the rights to the series including the rights to air the original 25 episodes. Contractually, however, Gen-TV Studios will continue to be listed in the end credits as a producer on the series for the remainder of its life on TV.

The series focuses on the high stakes and organically dramatic world of high society debutante balls and features teenage girls competing to be crowned queen of the debutante ball in Manhattan. It also features the backstabbing and behind the scenes drama between their mothers and debutante instructors.

Surprise Renewal, Move To New Network:

It is a good news/bad news situation for Gen-TV Studios reality series "Very Nice Girls: Manhattan Debutantes" as it grabs a huge renewal order for seasons three, four and five; but also makes a move from WE: TV to E! Entertainment Television.

Gen-TV's Vice President, Alex Montez explains "Very Pretty Girls quickly became a huge success in its first two seasons; with over 2 million viewers watching and a solid 3.2 in demos." "Unfortunately a financial deal with WE: TV over our licensing fee could not be worked out and they passed on the opportunity to continue airing the series." "E! Entertainment Television has graciously picked up the rights to the series, agreeing to pay a generous licensing fee and has picked up the series for three additional seasons." Season Three will consist of 23 episodes and run from July 2017-November 2017 (with a short hiatus from October-November); airing weekly on Thursday nights at 10pm.

Season Four will consist of 24 episodes to be aired from January-April 2018; and Season Five will consist of 22 episodes and air between June-November 2018.

Jonathan Murray and Ryan Seacrest will remain as Executive Producers, respectively through their Buninm-Murray Productions and Ryan Seacrest Productions.

But the good news doesn't stop there, as Gen-TV Studios and E! Entertainment Television have also announced plans to produce TWO spin-offs from the series. The first spin-off, "Very Nice Girls: Dallas Debutants" will follow a group of girls in Dallas, Texas as they prepare for their formal debut into high society; and that series will debut on E! in November 2017. The second spin-off, "Very Nice Girls: Oklahoma City" will follow a group of girls in Oklahoma and will debut in June 2018.

A spokesperson for E! says "We are thrilled to bring Very Pretty Girls into our family of outrageous and addictive reality series. We can't wait for our viewers to become addicted to this fantastic series."

Breaking Report:
Gen-TV suffers unthinkable loss

Hollywood Now Report
Sandy Torres Death---Full Coverage

In stunning and heartbreaking news, Hollywood Now is devastated at having to report that former Gen-TV President Saundra "Sandy" Torres has died of an apparent suicide on Wednesday afternoon, June 13th. Though police will not release the exact nature of her passing, sources close to the story confirm that it has been labeled suicide by the county coroner's office.

This marks a tragic ending to a horrific series of events for the former Gen-TV executive. Last year she suffered the death of her husband and her daughter in a car accident and then a few weeks later her other daughter was kidnapped and held hostage by a stalker. Torres who suffered a mental breakdown and was hospitalized shortly thereafter resigned from Gen-TV and retired from the entertainment business, and took a job at wine vineyard owned by some relatives.

Torres reportedly had been dealing with anxiety issues and depression following her exit from the TV business and never took to her life as a private citizen. Sources tell us she missed the fame and had trouble adjusting to life without the fame of the TV industry.

Torres family has released a statement regarding her death: "We are completely heartbroken and destroyed that Saundra decided to end her life. She has struggled profoundly in recent months and was unable to obtain the kind of help she was in dire need of." "We thank her friends and colleagues at Gen-TV for their unwavering support."

Torres leaves behind a 25-year-old daughter, Ellie Torres; and two brothers, Javier Torres, 54 and Vincent "Vinny" Torres, 30 of Culver City, California.

A separate statement from Ellie Torres was released that said simply "I am heartbroken that I have lost my mother; yet alone a year after losing my father and my sister." "I will never be the same again."

The Hollywood community has responded with open hearts, here are some statements and social media posts we've seen about this horrible news:

STATEMENTS:

Gen-TV Studios President, Ross Chin: "Everybody at Gen-TV is beyond heartbroken at the unexpected and tragic loss of Sandy Torres. Sandy was a friend, mentor, and inspiration to us all."

Gen-TV Board of Directors, President, Cain Wentworth: "On behalf of the B.O.D. of Gen-TV, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to Ellie Torres, Javier Torres, and Vinny Torres for their unbelievable and senseless loss."

MTV Networks: "MTV Networks would like to extend a deep and heartfelt message of sympathy to the Torres family."

CBS Television, Les Moonves, CEO: "Every member of the CBS family is heartbroken over the loss of our colleague in the business, Sandy Torres."

SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS:

Daphne Zuniga, "This Time Around": "Sandy Torres was a beautiful soul; a friend, a fearless leader and a flawless human being inside and out. I will deeply miss her."

Ansor Williams, Gen-TV Producer: "I truly cannot believe that Sandy is gone. May she rest in peace."

Soliel Moon Frye, "Over My Head": "Go be with Victor and Maria, they need you." (Victor and Maria were Sandy's husband and daughter.)

Jason Priestly, "Outside The Lines": "Rest In Peace, Sandy Torres. You will be missed."

Brandon Routh, "Sisterly Love": "WTF, Sandy Torres is gone? My heart is broken." "RIP Sandy Torres."

and the most heartfelt message came from Lisa Nicole Carson ("Sisters") who wrote "My heart goes out to the Torres family. My deepest sympathies go to Sandy who felt the need to escape her pain. Dealing with mental illness is no joke and can be truly devastating to your inner-self." "I hope you rest in peace, my beautiful sister."

Default Gen-TV Summer Preview

Gen-TV Summer Preview
2017 Summer

Gen-TV begins broadcasting its 2017 summer programming tonight (June 18th, 2017) and is set for one of its biggest summers yet. Returning favorites include red-hot anthology dramas "Love Affair", this year being called "City Heat" and taking place in New York City in the mid-1980's. Kate Walsh returns as Lydia Holloway, who now owns a nightclub which will be the centerpiece for most of the series plot points. The main storyline this season focuses on the romance between a broke backup dancer and an extremely famous pop singer who does a show at the club. Nick Jonas co-stars as Chris, the backup dancer, and Jordin Sparks co-stars as Krystal, the singer. "The Hardest Goodbye" returns this week as well, still focused on terminal illness, the drama switches from cancer to AIDS this season. A brand new cast of actors play characters in several different time periods and are likely to become Emmy nominees for their work.

Gen-TV is also going to air a slew of returning scripted shows this summer to give fans more of what they want; series they love. Among those are comedies "Raising Grandma", "Hart of Family" and "Sisterly Love" and dramas "Deadly Visions", "Cop City" and "The Mulroney Mysteries". Gen-TV has traditionally always aired some new episodes of returning series in the summer, and this season is no different.

What is new this summer is a slew of brand new reality series, including buzzed-about docuseries "Without Borders", an inside look at a group of doctors working with doctors without borders. The expensive and dangerous to produce series shows doctors working in impoverished, war-torn countries to provide medical care. Also new this summer is the much hyped "Explorations & Investigations with Leah Remini" which follows Remini as she explores and investigates mysteries, myths, urban legends and unsolved crimes from all over the world. Remini will consult with experts in various fields to find answers and will document the entire search. Jennifer Love Hewitt also hosts a new docudrama called "Love with Jennifer Love Hewitt" which explores the origins and change face of love in the United States throughout history.

Gen-TV is also very excited about two new game shows airing this summer. "Climb The Pyramid" is a series that rival network YTN canceled and Gen-TV has picked up and completely altered. New hosts Joey Fatone and Danielle Fishel will preside over the series, which has brand new rules, a new set design, and a retro feel. It is now airing five nights a week, Sunday through Friday. It is being paired with a brand new game show, "The Winners Circle", a trivia-themed show that requires contestants to answer themed questions in order to advance to the physically demanding obstacle course known as "The Winners Circle" to compete for a 50,000 dollar prize.

Lastly, returning series "Being Janet Jackson" and "Celebrity Cooking Battles" also air this summer!

Default Gen-TV Ratings Report

Gen-TV Summer Ratings

Sunday, June 18, 2017:

Gen-TV Network kicked off their summer programming with a literal bang as viewers were treated to the opening theme song of Gen-TV's new game show "Climb The Pyramid"; vastly overhauled from its YTN run. Ratings were solid for the first of six episodes to air this week. The series debuted to 20.5 million/6.8 18-49, enough to make it Gen-TV's highest-rated game show debut in four years.

"Love Affair: City Heat" returned to 11.2 million/4.8 18-49, down from last summer, but still solid for a series in its fifth season, and one that only airs during the summer. Hosted by Jennifer Love Hewitt, the new docudrama "Love with Jennifer Love Hewitt" was a let-down debuting to under 10 million viewers and garnering a 2.2 in demos. Thankfully, the extremely hyped debut of "Investigations & Explorations with Leah Remini" was a stronger performer, grabbing 15.9 million viewers and a 6.7 in demos.

8pm: Climb The Pyramid (New, Series Premiere): 20.5/6.8 18-49

9pm: Love Affair: City Heat (New, Season Premiere): 11.2/4.8 18-49

10pm: Love with Jennifer Love Hewitt (New, Series Premiere): 9.8 million/2.2 18-49

11pm: Investigations & Explorations with Leah Remini (New, Series Premiere): 15.9/6.7 18-49

Default Susan Sullivan NOT returning to Mallory's

Responding to the most recent TV ratings, Gen-TV is making two big moves today. First up, the network has finally and officially pulled the plug on struggling drama "The Malones"; a spin-off of "The Mallory's of Jefferson County" that never really found its footing. It has languished in the bottom-half of the ratings since its debut and has routinely lost viewers each week. Reviews were slightly more kind than ratings, as reviewers enjoyed the campy quality and embraced the fact the series leaned into its soapy roots hard.

The series which will finish the remainder of the season will not return next season. This has been expected all along, and now Gen-TV has finally confirmed it. Gen-TV President Ross Chin called this decision "frustrating and difficult to make; but necessary given the economic issues related to this show." He says "creatively this show was top-notch, but we just could not sustain the financials another season."

It is unknown at this time if any characters or performers from "The Malones" will migrate over to "The Mallory's of Jefferson County", as producers "have not yet made that decision." Sources tell us that they aren't even sure if Susan Sullivan will be brought back to reprise her role as matriarch Nancy Malone Mallory.

In other news, Gen-TV is cutting the episode order for "Boston Homicide" from 22 to 19, meaning the series will wrap up production on its current season next week. Though the series was given an early renewal back in January sources tell us that Gen-TV's support in this show may be fading, and that if it is scheduled for next season, it would probably be in mid-season.

Breaking Report:
Susan Sullivan Not returning to "Mallory's"
---Actress will not come back following "Malone's" cancellation

Following the cancellation of spin-off "The Malones" after one low-rated season; Susan Sullivan who starred on that series will not be returning to "Mallory's of Jefferson County" as Nancy Malone-Mallory, the role she originated on that show in its first episode.

Despite speculation that she would bring her Nancy character back to "Mallory's of Jefferson County", Gen-TV has now confirmed that she is not returning to the series. Ross Chin, President of Gen-TV Studios said on Monday "From a story perspective the return of Nancy Malone-Mallory simply does not make sense. Nancy's exit from Mallory's was based on the fact that she had divorced her husband and was no longer involved in the Mallory family drama. She left her husband and moved out of town." "We do not believe her return to the series would make sense character-wise and we confirm that Susan Sullivan will not be returning to the series."

For their part, the Executive Producers of "Mallory's" and "The Malones", Gabrielle Gifford and John Tram said "We absolutely adore Susan and all that she has brought to our programs over the last five and a half years; however, from a character perspective it just doesn't make sense for Nancy to return to the series; as she exited the show hoping to escape her ex-husband's family." "We thank Susan for her many years of exceptional work, her professionalism, and her remarkable talent."

Sullivan's representative confirmed this news saying "Susan is heartbroken that she has not been asked to return to Mallory's and believes that Nancy's story still has a lot of threads to pull on." "However she understands the reasons she has not been asked to return and she wishes the best for the cast and crew of Mallory's."

Since it was announced back in February that Leeza Gibbons would jump from YTN's "Rise & Shine" to Gen-TV Network; rumors have been running rampant about what role Gibbons would play at Gen-TV. Until now, the network has been quiet about this and now we have official confirmation.

Despite reports to the contrary, she will NOT be the new host of "A.M. Live", the series which is currently still looking for new co-hosts. Instead, the network confirms that Gibbons is going to be one of the co-hosts of a new talk show sponsored by the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons); the leading American association dedicated to issues important to retired persons or people over the age of 60. However, sources tell us this new talk show will mainly target future AARP members, between the ages of 40 and 55.

The pilot is being produced not for Gen-TV Network, but instead for Stream-Me, the Gen-TV funded streaming site that is already home to original series "Law of Death", "Younger Sisters" and "Promise of Tomorrow" which was recently rebooted in the form of 20-minute segments. Later this year former Gen-TV Network series "Cooking For Dummies", "Law & Order: New York City" and "Law & Order: Hate Crimes" will move over to Stream-Me as well.

Breaking News:
Leeza Gibbons Exits Gen-TV

After her YTN series "Rise & Shine" was canceled, Leeza Gibbons signed a lucrative Gen-TV development deal to create and star in a new talk show sponsored by the AARP, that would focus on issues related to retirees. However, Gen-TV is now confirming that this project will no longer move forward. Gibbons will exit Gen-TV and her contract will be terminated. Insiders say that there is no ill-will between Gen-TV and Leeza and that the project fell apart due to funding after the AARP pulled out of sponsoring the series.

The talk show was to air on Stream-ME, the Gen-TV funded streaming site, but will not move forward at all. Gibbons is now a free agent.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN SET TO DECIDE FATE OF THREE SERIES
The fate of three series on YTN will be determined in the next few days, as cast contracts are up on Friday, June 30th.

Raising Teenagers, Friends of Mine, and Serial, are all regular season shows currently in the midst of airing during the summer. Due to that, their contracts are on the regular season cycle and end on June 30th. YTN can choose to extend those by a week or more, but that seems unlikely unless there is a sure-fire renewal on the table.

Raising Teenagers, now in its fifth season and with 122 episodes (that total is exactly the same as YTN icon College), is averaging an 0.8 A18-49 for its summer run. Part one of season five, which aired from September to December, on Friday nights, averaged an 0.83 A18-49. The show has a steady, but low, audience watching. It typically rates below its lead in, Extended Family, by two or three tenths. Insiders tell us this is a true toss up and the network would like a sixth season to strengthen its case for syndication. The series is one of the few YTN comedies not to find a home on broadcast or cable syndication.

On the flip side of the coin, Friends of Mine appears to be dead after three seasons. If that were to be the case, it would be the first YTN comedy to be cancelled after three seasons; every other YTN comedy renewed past season one has aired for at least four seasons. Starting as a midseason series, the comedy has aired only one full season from fall to spring (season two). It is averaging an 0.78 A18-49 and recently swapped timeslots with UpSelling. During the fall season, Friends of Mine averaged a 1.29 A18-49, so the audience has really cratered as of late.

And the biggest surprise is long-running serial murder drama Serial. Written off after a long hiatus (over one year) and scheduled during the summer for the first time, the series is averaging 4.4 million viewers and 1.02 A18-49. If it continued its current ratings trajectory, it would be the smallest season-to-season drop in the shows history. Don't count out Serial just yet, but chances are closer to cancellation than renewal.
