Default Pretty Big Lies Saved By ShondaLand?

Gen-TV Mini-Series "Pretty Big Lies" is supposed air in midseason but it looks like the series is in creative trouble after Gen-TV Executives rejected the scripts for its first three episodes. Sources tell us that Gen-TV has fired the writers responsible for creating the concept of the mini-series and are looking elsewhere for showrunners more in-line with their own vision of what the series might look like.

Hollywood Insider is also hearing that Gen-TV is looking to change out some of its cast also. We are hearing that both Hillary Swank and Jennifer Aniston may be on their way out, as Gen-TV is apparently looking to cast much bigger profile names, with Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence said to be on the networks wish list.

Only time will tell, but it looks like "Pretty Big Lies" may not make it to air by midseason.

Gen-TV Mini-Series saved by Shonda Rhimes?
---Uber Producer Eyes Pretty Big Lies

Uber producer Shonda Rhimes is said to be eyeing Gen-TV's mini-series "Pretty Big Lies", which seems to be stuck in development limbo as original creators Casey Asher and Melissa Clark Mills were abruptly fired after Gen-TV executives rejected their script ideas. Sources tell us that in addition to that, casting is causing a problem at Gen-TV with Hillary Swank and Jennifer Aniston said to be getting axed from the series.

Shonda Rhimes apparently has expressed interest in producing and writing the series through her ShondaLand production company although no deal with Gen-TV is currently on the table. Sources tell us that if Shonda can work out a deal with Gen-TV she would completely revamp the series turning it into a prestige project for the network. Only time will tell if anything ever happens.

Another addition to BTV2 is Payday based on the video game Payday 2 except there is an actual story to follow and we don't have the rights to the John Wick character.

Default Update on First Run Programming

First Run & Syndicated Programming

During a brief portion of Gen-TV's UpFront Presentation on Tuesday, Gen-TV Studios announced programming decisions for their first run and syndicated programming, here is the rundown. Gen-TV has renewed five programs and cancelled one other series. First the bad news, syndicated home improvement series "Ty Tells All" starring Ty Pennington has been cancelled and will not return for a third season in fall. It debuted in 2015 and was a significant hit in national syndication, but ratings fell hard in season two and the series will not return.

Now, the good news; getting renewed are Stream-ME's "Law of Death", which will return for a final season in January 2018 and syndicated lifestyle series "You've Got To Be Gidding Me" starring John Gidding and "Food Genius with Adam Gertler". Sitcom, "Sinbad" will also return for a third season. Airing on PBS and starting next season, also in national syndication, "You've Got To Be Gidding Me" has maintained a solid audience; and "Food Genius with Adam Gertler" has grown in demos every single season, with this current season being it's highest rated yet. "Sinbad" has seen declines year to year, but is still the #3 rated series among African-American viewers.

Gen-TV Studios produced programming have also gotten renewals from other networks; with Lifetime TV renewing "Celebrity Dreamhouse Project" and "Please Fix My House"; A&E TV renewing "1-2-3 Cook", Bravo renewing "Faded Beauties" and TV One renewing "Single Again" for additional seasons. YTN Network also holds rights to three Gen-TV Studios programs; "Second Chance", "Outdoor Renovation" and "UpSelling"; the future of these programs looks promising as well.

Gen-TV Studios News:
First Run News!

Gen-TV Studios has some news about their first-run projects which air in syndication and cable networks:

"Single Again":

TV One Network has confirmed that Gen-TV Produced sitcom "Single Again" featuring five single, middle aged black women will return for a third season of episodes to air between November 2017 and March 2018. The series completed its second season in August 2017, and averaged 2.4 million viewers and a 4.5 in demos. Among Black viewers the series is currently the #2 rated series on TV (behind #1 Black-Ish and tied for #2 with BET's Being Mary Jane). It is the #1 series among black females aged 18-25, and ranks #3 among all female viewers aged 25-40.

When announcing scheduling of this show, TV One representatives said "Single Again has not only connected with our viewers in an organic way, it has shown obvious and natural growth each season, and has built a significant following for our network. We are proud to continue airing this phenomenal series."

The third season of the series welcomes three additional cast members, Jada Pinkett Smith, Phylicia Rashad and Loretta Devine who will appear on a recurring basis.

"Law of Death":

The final season of Gen-TV Studios prestigious drama "Law of Death" will be released to Stream-Me on January 10, 2018, and will consist of 15 episodes which will be released as follows:

January 10, 2018: First Five Episodes Released
January 17, 2018: Second Five Episodes Released
January 24, 2018: Last Five Episodes Released

"1-2-3 Cook":

A&E TV has confirmed that a third season of the instructional cooking series will begin airing in December 2018. This is following the successful second season which aired between May and August 2017 and averaged 10.4 million viewers in primetime and 3.4 million viewers during its daytime airings.

Consisting of 75 brand new episodes, season three of "1-2-3 Cook" will add Chef's Nigella Lawson and Brian Malarkey to the hosting panel joining Amanda Freitag and Alton Brown. This massively expands on the series original order of 150 episodes to be spread out over three seasons. When announcing this decision A&E Reps said "1-2-3 Cook has been an unqualified success for A&E and our sister brands; it has cultivated an enormous following and has restored the luster and quality to our reputation." "We are absolutely thrilled and ecstatic to renew this series and give it an additional 75 episodes to educate and entertain our audience." "It was simply a no-brainer to continue producing this marvelous series."

For Gen-TV Studios, the deal with A&E Networks to air "1-2-3 Cook" has been a windfall, as the series currently accounts for nearly 65% of the studio's overall profits for the year. "outside of primetime programming on Gen-TV Network, 1-2-3 Cook is the cash cow for the studio, generating most of the profits that fund the studios programming and operations."

"Faded Beauties":

Season two of "Faded Beauties" aired on Bravo between June and July 2017 and averaged 1.2 million viewers/1.0 18-49, a slight increase over season one (900,000/.89 18-49). Bravo has announced it will air a third season of the series between January and April of 2018. Serena Scott Thomas, Heather Locklear and Charisma Carpenter will return to the series. Stephanie Seymour will exit the program after one season.

"Sinbad":

Sitcom "Sinbad" will return for a third season in February 2018, and will air nationally in syndication on Friday and Saturday's in 93% of the country.

"Food Genius with Adam Gertler":

Food Genius will return for a third season in February 2018 and will air in national syndication in 100% of the country.

"You've Got To Be Gidding Me":

Returning for a third season, John Gidding hosted "You've Got To Be Gidding Me", will start airing on PBS in February 2018, and in national syndication in April 2018.

"Please, Fix My House" & "Celebrity Dreamhouse Project":

Lifetime has confirmed both of these reality series will return for third seasons in April 2018. Second seasons of both aired between May and August 2017, with "Celebrity Dreamhouse Project" averaging 16.2 million viewers/4.5 18-49 and "Please, Fix My House" averaging 5.5 million/2.4 18-49.

"Celebrity Dreamhouse Project" host Chrissy Teigen will be replaced by Genevieve Gorder for season three. Teigen herself replaced Alyssa Milano. Pagie Davis and Doug Wilson will return as hosts for "Please, Fix My House."

"Finding Home":

Showtime has announced that a second season of acclaimed drama "Finding home" has been ordered but won't air until next summer. However, reruns of the series are available to watch online at Stream-Me and on the Showtime webpage and apps.

Scumbags about sleazy networks, slimy bureaucrats, and scummy politicians who will resort to anything in order to further their agendas including stage false flag mass shootings.

8- Mother & Daughter - 6.01 million viewers and 1.3 (1.321) A18-49, down two tenths from last week to a new series low.

830- Suburbia - 5.35 million viewers and 1.1 (1.104) A18-49, down two tenths from last week.

9- Full Time Mom - 6.49 million viewers and 1.4 (1.400) A18-49, down two tenths from last week to a new series low.

930- Life Lessons - 6.03 million viewers and 1.3 (1.342) A18-49, down a tenth from last week.

10- Virus - 9.87 million viewers and 4.1 (4.134) A18-49, up a tenth from last week for its second best outing ever.

Monday, October 2, 2017
8- Soccer Stories - 4.03 million viewers and 1.1 (1.104) A18-49, down a tenth from last week. This isn't a terrible week three, but YTN had to be hoping for more, right? Either way, it seems YTN has bigger fish to fry.

830- Burgers and Fries - 2.01 million viewers and 0.5 (0.503) A18-49, down two tenths from last week. Almost nobody will miss this once its gone.

9- Call Girls - 10.42 million viewers and 4.7 (4.694) A19-49, down a whopping 1.1 points for the second straight week to fall to a series low. The previous low was set wayyyy back in season one, episode three. Yikes. Call Girls is still no doubt very impressive, but its coming back down to Earth very quickly.

10- I Am Rebecca - 2.12 million viewers and 0.7 (0.658) A18-49, down two tenths from last week. Retention from Call Girls was 20% among total viewers and 14% in the demo. Ouch.

Tuesday, October 3, 2017
8- Looking for Love - 5.93 million viewers and 1.5 (1.553) A18-49, down three tenths from last week. After a very impressive spring season and strong start to the current season, things aren't looking as lovely three weeks into the new season.

930- Marriage by Default - 4.84 million viewers and 1.0 (1.041) A18-49, down three tenths from last week. Add yet another failure to YTN's list of problems with its freshmen class.

10- TAKEN - 9.16 million viewers and 1.5 (1.495) A18-49, down two tenths to a new series low for the second straight week.

Wednesday, October 4, 2017
8- Boston General - 4.01 million viewers and 0.7 (0.792) A18-49, down a tenth from last week to a new series low.

9- CIA Files - 12.69 million viewers and 3.0 (3.013) A18-49, up a tenth from last week.

10- The Dark Side of Mr. Douglas - 1.73 million viewers and 0.4 (0.409) A18-49, down two tenths from last week. Retention from its lead in was 14% in both total viewers and the demo. By the 1030 half hour, things were very ugly: 0.854/0.356/0.224/0.201

Thursday, September 28, 2017
8- Behind the Scenes - 8.34 million viewers and 2.0 (2.012) A18-49, down three tenths from last week.

830- Blended - 6.01 million viewers and 1.4 (1.421) A18-49, down two tenths from last week.

9- The Hughes Family - 7.36 million viewers and 1.8 (1.785) A18-49, down three tenths from last week to a new series low.

930- Family Business - 4.93 million viewers and 1.1 (1.136) A18-49, down three tenths from last week and suffering a much larger drop this week than vs. last week. An already meh first two weeks has turned into almost a disaster in week three. Not good.

10- TAKEN: Phoenix - 8.96 million viewers and 1.4 (1.421) A18-49, down a tenth from last week.

Friday, October 5, 2017
8- Serve and Protect - 6.01 million viewers and 0.6 (0.629) A18-49, down a tenth from last week to a new series low.

9- Cops of Baltimore - 4.82 million viewers and 0.4 (0.423) A18-49, down a tenth from last week.

10- Cops of New York - 7.12 million viewers and 0.7 (0.732) A18-49, down two tenths from last week to a new series low.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN CANCELS FOUR FRESHMEN SERIES
YTN is making television history, cancelling FOUR freshmen series after three episodes on the air. The network is pulling the plug on Burgers and Fries, Cops of Baltimore, The Dark Side of Mr. Douglas, and I Am Rebecca. Production will cease on all four programs immediately, with all four also yanked from the air beginning next week.

The writing was on the wall for the four series after disastrous debuts. This week, the four series all fell to or below a 0.8 - a low barrier even by today's lower standards. Cops of Baltimore and Mr. Douglas fared the worst, falling to an 0.4, and Mr. Douglas had the lead in of CIA Files. I Am Rebecca also had the benefit of a massive lead in and failed to capitalize, falling to an 0.7 in week three. Burgers and Fries itself recorded a dismal 0.5 this week.

The other three freshmen series, Soccer Stories, Marriage by Default, and Family Business, will remain on the air. They have all hovered around the 1.0 threshold, but have not been as disastrous as the four freshmen that were pulled. YTN has not issued a full season order for any of them - yet.

With so many shows pulled, YTN has a lot of holes to plug. Most of the week will see recap specials, leading into season premieres next week.

Soccer Stories will shift to the 830 half hour, being replaced with repeats of itself in the 8 o'clock half hour. YTN seems to have some faith in the freshmen series by giving it the entire hour. That move is official, as of tonight.

The second half of season three of Revolution will return to Monday nights, airing at 10 o'clock for the first time since season two. Due to its serialized nature and the last minute premiere, YTN will air a recap special tonight and the premiere next week. It has eight episodes left to air.

Sophomore Amazon will return to Wednesdays at 10, where it aired for its first season in the spring. It was by no mean a breakout hit, but it will likely be a hefty improvement over The Dark Side of Mr. Douglas. Amazon will also air a recap special this week, with the season two premiere next Wednesday. YTN has the season at 13 episodes, but will likely order more if needed.

Finally, it looks like there is no long term fix to Friday nights, as repeats of Cops of New York will merely fill the hole left by the cancellation of Cops of Baltimore.

Breaking News:
Shonda Rhimes Passed on "Pretty Big Lies"

----Ryan Murphy Saves Series

While Shonda Rhimes has officially passed on the chance to save Gen-TV's troubled mini-series "Pretty Big Lies", another producer has stepped in and saved it. Ryan Murphy has officially agreed to serve as executive producer on the mini-series and will, with his team work on a new script for the program.

A deal with Shonda Rhimes production company seemed imminent last week but the deal fell apart over financial disagreements. Murphy stepped in when he heard Rhimes had declined the chance to work on the program. The mini-series originally slated for midseason centers around a cul-de-sac in Los Angeles that houses the wealthiest of wealthy, the most famous of famous and the most glamarous residents in America. It had a star cast attached that included Hillary Swank, Halle Berry and Jennifer Aniston, but sources indicate that Murphy plans to recast all of them.

No new airdate is available.

Default Gen-TV Ratings

Monday, September 25:

Airing an updated schedule seems to have helped Gen-TV's Monday night, with "Hart of Family" up 20% in demos from last week, and "Homecourt Advantage" up 13% in demos week to week. "Malpractice" shows its first signs of growth ever, jumping up 17% in demos. New series "Climb The Pyramid: Family Edition" hosted by Ben Bailey and Chandra Wilson ("Grey's Anatomy") also provided a nice ratings boost for Gen-TV, debuting to 15.54 million viewers and a 6.3 in demos.

8pm: Climb The Pyramid: Family Edition (New, Series Premiere): 15.54 million/6.3 18-49
830: Hart of Family (New): 23.5 million/7.6 18-49
9pm: Homecourt Advantage (New): 20.4 million/5.19 18-49
930: Threesome (New): 12.9 million/4.4 18-49
10pm: Highly Functioning Adults (New): 16.8 million/6.9 18-49
11pm: Malpractice (New): 14.4 million/3.6 18-49

------------------

Tuesday, September 26:

Just like on Monday, Gen-TV saw a significant ratings bump with an altered schedule. "Ask Alyssa" returned to the lineup and netted 14.4 million viewers and a 3.9 in demos. Down from what "Deadly Visions" got last week in this timeslot, but a solid number all-together. "Deadly Visions" moved to 11pm, where it was seen by 20.5 million viewers and a 4.4 in demos, down from a week ago, but still on-target for this show. "Spaced Out" seems to be a loser, dropping 20% of its viewers in demos from last week.

8pm: The Special Classroom (New): 22.9 million/6.3 18-49
830: Fish Out Of Water (New): 14.2 million/5.4 18-49
9pm: Spaced Out (New): 7.4 million/4.4 18-49
10: Ask Alyssa (New, Season Premiere): 14.4 million/39. 18-49
11pm: Deadly Visions (New): 20.5 million/4.4 18-49

------------

Wednesday, September 27:

Wednesday night seems to be a magical night as "Degree of Guilt", already a hit has jumped up nearly 40% in demos, while reruns of "Single Again" significantly outperformed the quickly cancelled third season of "Sisterly Love."

8pm: Making It Work (New): 20.1 million/3.2 18-49
830: Running In Circles (New): 14.9 million/5.5 18-49
9pm: Single Again (Rerun): Ratings Not Published
930: Every Other Weekend (New): 23.5 million/5.4 18-49
10: Degree of Guilt ( New): 35.9 million/12.8 18-49
11pm: The Plain Land Murders (New): 30.7 million/8.3 18-49

-------------------------

Thursday, September 28:

It was a mixed bag for Gen-TV on Thursday. On the positive side, all four comedies were solid week to week, with "Selling out" and "The Boss Lady" leading the pack. On the downside, the final season of "Mallory's" is falling flat, with ratings dropping significantly week to week.

8pm: Raising Grandma (New): 14.2 million/5.9 18-49
830: Mama Knows Best (New): 14.8 million/5.5 18-49
9: The Boss Lady (New): 21.83 million/5.6 18-49
930: Selling Out (New): 34.9 million/10.4 18-49
10pm: The Mallory’s of Jefferson County (New): 71.3 million/6.3 18-49
11pm: American Citizen (New): 63.9 million/12.9 18-49

----------------------------

Friday, September 29:

Gen-TV must seriously do something to fix their Friday night lineup. Outside of "The Mulroney Mysteries" not much is working here. Reruns of "Trauma Center" were a small band-aid though for the cancelled two series it is replacing.

8pm: Outside The Lines (New): 5.2 million/1.3 18-49
830: Limited Edition (New): 11.4 million/2.4 18-49
9pm: The Mulroney Mysteries (New): 30.4 million/13.8 18-49
10pm: Trauma Center (Rerun): Ratings Not Published
11pm: Trauma Center (Rerun): Ratings Not Published

-----------------------

Saturday, September 30:

Despite no increase in promotion, "Jack of All Trades" jumped up 15% in demos since last week and out of nowhere "The Witches of West Side" leaped upwards, garnering over 22 million viewers and a 5.5 in demos.

8pm: Your Last Wish (New): 8.2 million/4.4 18-49
9pm: Celebrity Road Trip Adventures (New): 10.3 million/3.4 18-49
10: The Witches of West Side (New): 22.8 million/5.5 18-49
11: Jack of All Trades (New): 28.2 million/8.7 18-49

--------------------

Sunday, October 1:

The three returning comedies all showed growth in demos, while reruns of reliable comedies padded the numbers, preventing Gen-TV from losing the night to CBS.

Also getting picked up for the full season are freshmen comedies "Fish Out Of Water" and "The Special Classroom", which average over 20 million viewers weekly. Daytime & Weekend Schedules

With the writers strike averted, Gen-TV and other networks are able to proceed with their planned UpFront Presentations for advertisers where they unveil their new line-ups of programming. While Gen-TV Network won't make their official primetime presentation until Friday, they did hold today their Daytime & Weekend program; revealing their plans for Daytime (M-F) and Weekend (Saturday & Sunday) programming. This portion of the program was held in New York City at the Regency Plaza Hotel and was presented in-tandem by Gen-TV Studios President Ross Chin, Vice President Alexander Anthony Montez (Alex Montez), Board of Directors Chairperson Cain Wentworth and was hosted by Jackee Harry (Raising Grandma; The Jackie Show), Janeane Garofalo (In The News with Janeane Garofalo) and "Family Court" cast members Judge Alex Ferrera and Attorney Gloria Allred.

The 2 1/2 hours long presentation highlighted the network's Monday thru Friday daytime programming, including an all-new season of "Family Court"; featuring a revamped cast with Judge Alex Ferrera and Attorney Gloria Allred sitting in for departing hosts Glenda Hatchett and Mablean Ephriam. When the series returns in the fall with it's brand new season; it will feature a brand new format, more close in tone to long-running series "Divorce Court" instead of the overtly sensational tone it has had this season. Ross Chin commented on the decision to make this change saying "We heard the complaints and the concerns about the tone of Family Court, and took very seriously the concerns people had that we were exploiting children." "We have worked diligently with producers to change this and season 2 will not be as scandalous and will be more in line with current court shows in that regard." "Children will no longer be seen on the show, as their faces will be obscured."

In addition to returning to Gen-TV for season 2, "Family Court" is debuting in national syndication as well, and has been cleared in 98% of the country, with Tribune owned stations being the primary home outside of Gen-TV for the show.

Another exciting announcement is the renewal of hit soap opera "Edge of Justice", which will start a brand new storyline in the fall, and will feature a big cast change at that point. More about that will be announced closer to fall, however Gen-TV did confirm one big casting scoop; current lead cast member Hillary B. Smith, will remain with the series in the same role. Ross Chin explains "Hillary has become the face of this show and her character has easily become the most popular on Edge of Justice." "We are proud to keep Hillary and her fascinating and conflicted attorney on our network." Since debuting in January 2017, "Edge of Justice" has quickly emerged as a solid performer, quickly becoming the #2 overall Daytime Soap on TV, narrowly defeated by "The Young & Restless" in most ratings periods by less than a tenth of a point. For the period of February 6-March 10, 2017, "Edge of Justice" was the #1 rated Daytime Soap Opera on TV with Female Viewers aged 14-25.

Gen-TV's daytime programming will also include additional seasons each of hit news programs "Hourly News with Keith Olbermann", "In The News with Janeane Garofalo" and "NightCap starring Gio Benitez" with the first two moving to the afternoon hours to form a two-hour block of programming from 4-6pm. Previously these staples aired in the early morning.

Debuting this season, is a brand new original sitcom; "The Jackie Show" starring Jackee Harry (Raising Grandma) as a once popular talk show host desperate to reclaim her status as the "queen of daytime talk." This single-camera comedy will feature hilarious cameos from Wendy Williams, Sally Jesse Raphael, Ricki Lake, Oprah Winfrey, Rolonda Watts and Geraldo Rivera. The half-hour sitcom will air two episodes back to back from 12-1pm.

The last big announcement about Gen-TV's M-F line-up is the debut of the revamped "A.M. Live" which is now called "Gen-TV Live starring Chrissy Teigen & Jai Rodriguez" and will be much edgier, youthful and young than the previous incarnation. It will air daily from 11-12pm, Live coast-to-coast.

In terms of weekend programming, Gen-TV has spent a small fortune this year acquiring top-tier second run programming to fill those hours and has acquired a diverse slate of programs as varied as "E.R.", "NYPD BLUE", "The West Wing", "The Nanny", "Married With Children" and "Two and A Half Men." They will continue to break their weekend programming into two separate blocks; the first consisting of "Modern Day Masterpieces" and the second of "Classics & Gen-TV Originals". For the first half, they have acquired shows such as "The Americans", "Justified", "30 Rock", "Sons of Anarchy" and reacquired "The Good Wife." For the other block, they'ved filled it with shows from the Gen-TV Studios vault and classic sitcoms like "Designing Women", "The Golden Girls" and "Gimme A Break" among many others.

Exclusive News:
Edge of Justice Revamp Coming
---Gen-TV fighting to save soap from sinking

Gen-TV is apparently fighting to save lone soap opera "Edge of Justice" from cancellation as it sinks down the ratings every week. Debuting ten months ago, the series was a fast hit and critical hit with reviewers who praised it for its unconventional plotting and for avoiding typical soap opera cliches. The soap uses primetime like plotting and scheduling, airing for six months at a time and the going into reruns. The second season began in the fall with a brand new cast, except for Hillary B. Smith and a new story-arch.

Ratings for season two are down nearly 20% and Gen-TV is worried that fans aren't interested in the show anymore, so to increase viewer interest a total revamp is planned, with more traditional soap elements to be added and a bit of a cast overhaul coming. A source tells us "Gen-TV wants to bring in big name soap stars to generate more interest in the show. They also plan to add more conventional soap elements such as romantic storylines; and expand the premise to include stories that don't focus on crime and justice completely."

In order to achieve this Gen-TV has hired famed soap writers Michael Malone and Josh Griffiths to serve as the new head writer of the soap and have hired known soap producer Jill Farren Phelps to serve as Executive Producer. They will take over immediately and will be responsible for turning the show around.

A source tells Hollywood Insider "Gen-TV is desperate to save this soap and doesn't want to cancel it like they had to do with Promise of Tomorrow. They will try anything to get the show back on-track."
