Cinderella Man (2005) via Showtime-on-Demand

Based on the life of world heavyweight boxing champion James J. Braddock who struggled to support his family during The Great Depression. His comeback and "rags to riches" story inspired the nickname and gave people hope during one of America's toughest times.

The film received some criticism for how it portrayed boxing champion Max Baer. He's shown as being a rude womanizer and proudly boasts about the boxers he killed in the ring. His son Max Baer, Jr. (Jethro on The Beverly Hillbillies) said that his dad was a kind man who was forever troubled after Frankie Campbell's death in the ring.

He used a good portion of his boxing earnings to help support Campbell's family.

Rosemarie DeWitt has a small role in the film who is James J. Braddock's granddaughter.

An interesting fact about Braddock is that after he retired from boxing he went into marine equipment surplus supplies and helped construct NY's Verrazano Bridge.

The Falling '14 (It's 1969 at a strict English girls' school where charismatic Abbie and intense and troubled Lydia are best friends. After a tragedy occurs at the school, a mysterious fainting epidemic breaks out threatening the stability of all involved.

Really enjoyed this one, especially liked the late 60's British setting.)

Selena (1997): Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos

* This real-life tragic story movie is almost 20 years old.
* Jacob Vargas and Lupe Ontiveros are both in this movie and that short-lived WB sitcom Greetings From Tucson.
* RIP both Selena and Lupe Ontiveros.
* This movie is what led Jennifer Lopez to start her singing career.
* The setting of this movie is where Super Bowl LI will be hosted.

Unbreakable, from 2000, with Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson. Written and directed by M. Night I'm too tired to google the correct spelling of his name but you know who I mean.
