Get well soon, James. Hospital stays are no fun.

Thanks everyone!

I felt intense pain around my lower-right breastplate (right where gallbladder is) last Wednesday and nothing I was doing was making me comfortable. The soups and tea I tried drinking to soothe myself wouldn't stay down so I knew something was up and I took a cab to the ER.

After all of the X-rays and scans the docs said my gallblader was very inflamed and they then had to see if there were any blockages w/ the endoscopy. They cleared out whatever was there and I have a catheter attached to my side to drain out all of the junk at home.

I have an appt. to see my gastroenterologist‎ soon to see how everything's been going since I was discharged and for him to make the gallbladder removal appt.

Then a few more follow-ups after that and everything should be good. I have to stay on a low-fat diet for the time being which isn't that bad actually. I lost 8 and 1/2 pounds at the hospital and then 2 more since I've been home.

I'll try to get online when I can and keep everyone posted.

Oh No

I hope you feel better, James...

My sister had gallbladder problems a few years ago. She's doing fine now, she actually had us over for dinner today, that was real nice.

Thanks, my gastroenterologist wasn't in and postponed my first follow-up for Wednesday. When I see him is when he'll decide when I'm due to get the surgery and when the drainage thing comes out. It could happen at the office or I have to wait for the gallbladder operation itself.

I'm just taking it easy at home. The pain has subsided a lot which is great. It just hurts a little bit getting up and down, but that's due to this drainage pipe in me.

I just want everything over with. They told me when I was discharged that the worst is now over since they know what's going on and how to treat it. I just have to stay on a low-fat diet for the time being.

Default Update

I had my follow-up with the gastro. surgeon this morning. The gallbladder has to come out as it has basically shut down. He said it's rare for somebody at my age and health, but things like this happen. No evidence of gallstones.

I had a root canal done about 2 weeks before I went into the ER and had to put off getting the crown while all of this was going on. I now have to get the crown taken care of before I go in for surgery as the doctor said he doesn't want to have anything come loose in my mouth or at risk of infections during the operation.

I also have to keep the drainage tube inside until the operation itself.
