Well 3 gives the Cubs the NL Central crown. 14 for home field advantage in the NL playoffs. So yeah I'll take 14 too..

World Series pick time--

I hate them, I hope I'm wrong, it pains me to say it, but I'm picking the

I'm not going to say anything because I've learned not to open my mouth and jinx anything. I just want my favorite to win at least the NL Pennant this year.

Toronto takes out Baltimore, heads to Texas. Lots of bad blood between those 2 teams. Should be fun.

San Francisco knocks out New York, so let the series begin. We have:

AL
Boston-Cleveland
Toronto-Texas

NL
San Francisco-Chicago
Los Angeles-Washington

Toronto should be able to dispose of Texas without too much trouble. Texas won 95 games, but in my opinion they aren't as good as their record indicates.

Boston has the edge over Cleveland, but don't count the Indians out I think they will give Boston a run for their money.

Chicago has the edge over San Fran, but the Giants have recent post season experience and success, winning 3 world series during that time and I think they will give the Cubs a tough challenge. Cubs have a lot of pressure on them to win and end their long post season drought, will be interesting to see how they handle the post season this time around. I also think it's interesting that Arrieta has dropped to the number 3 starter behind Lester and Hendricks. Is that a bad omen for Chicago? Could be, but we'll see.

Washington is favored over Los Angeles, but the Dodgers have been known in the past for playing tough in the post season so I expect a close series there too.

Conversely, if Arrieta's only your number 3 guy, that's pretty good.

I never know what to do with the Cubs. Yeah, they won 103 games, but still, they're the Cubs.....

True, but Arrieta had been #1 in the rotation, if he's dropped to 3 leads me to believe he's lost some of his effectiveness as the season went on.

I imagine the Cubs will break thru eventually and finally win another world series. They have ownership and management now that seems determined to do it. It's possible this could be the year, we'll find out soon.

I'll leave it to Nordy to describe Arrieta's effectiveness down the stretch. He's Mr. Cub. (Well, Ernie Banks is , but Nordy's number 2).
