If you wanna get scared look at pictures of Josef Joplin or Rinehart Patrash in the dark,at night,all alone,by yourself,with your light turned out and your door shut.Or do the same when hearing Rober Stack or seeing him.Mostly the 87(or 88)-93 version of UM is the most scariest!!!!!!!!!!Nightmares!!!!!!!

LOL!!! It's nice to know that there are other people out there besides myself that get scared of the UM theme song. Is it not freaky or what?

This show also had the scariest background music I have ever heard.

UM first came on when I was in elementary school, 3rd grade I believe. My mom ordered me to stop watching it for a while because it gave me nightmares. Well, I'm 22 now, and the show still scares me!!! But I still love it. I always wished I could call in and help solve a mystery.

I feel the same way; I'd especially like to help solve a case that offers a possible monetary reward--and maybe to get my 15 minutes of fame.

Yeah, lots of the cases involve money rewards, that would be pretty awesome. But in other cases (like the one with grandparents Sandra and Marvin Maple kidnapping their kids) just knowing that they were locked up would be satisfaction enough.

No thank you, I already become scared watching the program in the dark.

And Robert makes it even worse with his distinct, creepy voice.

He puts so much emphasis on the "If you" in the sentence "If you have any information about this story......."

I just started watching UM every once in awhile, and it freaks me out! I love horror movies and can sit through just about every horror movie without freaking out, but UM just freaks me out.

Did anybody see last nights episode about the woman falling in the snow and just about freeze to death, literally? The way they did the eyes on her, made me think of how they did the zombies eyes in the remake movie to 'Night of the Living Dead'.

I agree, why does it seem like the 1980's episodes were the scariest? Those earliest cases seem to freak me out much more than the newer ones. There was something a little darker about how they were filmed, and maybe grainier. And there was a piercing silence to them, except for the voices and that terrifying music that would creep along or spring out of nowhere.

The later episodes seemed to be filmed through a filtered lense and it gives it a soft, hence, less threatning effect. I don't know if that's all there is to it, but I agree watching any of them at night in the dark puts me on high paranoid alert.

Good points Jennifer. I agree. The earlier episodes did seem scarier. I think the biggest reason is because they used much more of the freaky background music in the 80's and early 90's.

(and like I said before, this show had the scariest background music I ever heard.)

I think another reason is because of Robert Stack's voice. Back in the earlier episodes, it was lower and mysterious as always. If you watch the episodes these days, the pitch is alot different, he sounds alot more like an older man, although he still looks pretty good for being 150 years old.

Speaking of background music, the sad music for the lost loves or the families & friends of murdered loved ones is pretty depressing too.

I still watch the earlier episodes, they are great for a good scare.

In the early episodes, when they show the picture of the victim or missing person at the end of the case, i dont know why but it make me feel scared, i must confess. That and the background music are really creepy, and dont forget the credits music that is a slower, more depressive version of the shows theme

I agree that the theme from UM is scary. When I downloaded all the mp3s of the opening and ending themes, I thought the 1991 opening theme was more surreal and scarier than the current ones. Well, all of the opening and ending themes are surreal but the 1991 stands out for me as the most scary

Even hearing Robert Stack can give you goosebumps , especially when he says "Join me, for another edition of Unsolved Mysteries" or "If you have any information about this case..." When he puts the emphasis on "If you", that would certainly grab your attention.

Also, I tend to watch the show in the dark. Even if I watch it with the lights on, it's still creepy.

One of the cases that scared me was children remembering past lives. Very eerie, especially that one little girl who recalls the past life of a teenage girl who was killed in a road accident. That was freaky! And I thought the girl from "Poltergeist" who says "They're heeeere" was scary...

Having said all that, I get a kick out of those. I guess it's because I'm kinda partial to scary stuff.

I am still working on my last project and I needed to know if anyone remembers or has links on cases such as Micki Jo West, where the perpretrator sends letters to police or makes phone calls to police about their crimes. It's for psychology homework. One example of what I am looking for is the one where someone sends a note to police telling where someone's skull is... or in Micki Jo's case, where the killer leaves notes in a shopping mall saying that they knew who the killer was...I can't seem to find any other information on those cases anywhere on the internet. And I was also interested in hearing more about the pizza delivery girl in Oregon who was killed and the killer committing suicide. Does anyone have an article on it? Or Keith Warren who was found hung in the woods, and of course, Cynthia Anderson who's fate is apparently still a mystery. Thanks!

Someone must have told the producers to tone down the extremely frightening music, becasue it really is less scary now than in the late 80s. I remember being in 3rd grade when the show first came out. After watching a segment about alien abductions, I coudn't sleep well for the next 4 months. The earliest episode I can remember involved the Queen Mary ghosts. That was also scary, but it went away much quicker.
