Roflmao. These response are hilarious. I can't imagine why Richard Gere would do that, but I've heard that story too. I guess the ship needed to go to harbor. Okay, that made no sense but its 2:40 in the morning.

Frankly, I'm not a Richard Gere fan, but I think a real injustice is being done to him here. I have heard this story before. There's no way I can politely describe the details of this rumor (the key word here is "rumor"), but I would caution everyone not to spread stories like this when there's no reason to believe they are true.

I grew up in Philadelphia, and still live in the general area. A number of years ago, this same story circulated about a local newscaster (I won't mention the name). This story was never substantiated about that person either, but it spread throughout the area, and took on a life of its own. People in the region still tell this story as though it were fact.

Rumor and Gossip are terrible things. They can ruin lives, and careers. Please be very careful before you pass along something as being true, when in reality, it is just spiteful and vicious gossip.

Samsgirl: I'm not criticizing you for asking the question, or "yelling" at anybody here - if I came across that way, that was not my intention.

It's just that, as I said before, this is a rumor that is too nasty to be described in any kind of polite terms. A lot of very young people read these posts, and I just don't feel comfortable using the kind of graphic language that would be involved in describing the details of what supposedly happened. All I'm saying is that people shouldn't accept stories like this at face value - ugly rumors like these can do a lot of harm to innocent people.
