I was in 1st Grade when I started wearing them. I wore soft contacts in high school through early 20's, but my eyes are just too sensitive, that I went back to just wearing glasses.

I started wearing glasses in 3rd or 4th grade I actually had bifocals back then. I still wear glasses but I only had bifocals for the first few years.

I lost some, I got tired of the cleaning hassle and expense, and ultimately, I don't think I look that badly without them (and even if I DID, that really didn't warrant the hassle). Different strokes for different folks.

My eyes are pretty bad...my mom had glaucoma and detached retinas as well as cataracts and I've inherited her eyes. (I've also inherited some great stuff from her!) Needless to say, my eye doctor is a very important part of my life.

I was one of the lucky ones in my family. My mother, father and sister all have eye problems/need glasses and I was born with 20/20 vision.

My mother was born with glaucoma and cataracts which I hear is rare since most people develop those problems later in life. My eye doctor said that there is "a chance" I could develop them too later on, but he said it's very unlikely in his opinion.

Yes - since I was 7 years old (1st grade). I never had an issue with them, mainly because I always saw Alex Trebek wear them while reading clues on Jeopardy!, and I thought I could be as cool as him, LOL.

Many of the posters have the same thoughts as I. I started wearing glasses as a freshman in high school. Never wore them much for I could sit in the front seat. I am short as well. Then as my 20's came I wore them more for I just couldn't see as well. Now decades later I still wear them. I too tried contacts but the though of sticking something in my eye didn't appeal to me. A lot of time of cleaning them and I do occasionally doze off with my glasses on. I don't want to deal with chance infections. I kind of like the look of glasses for my skin area below my eyes is thin and glasses give me little color. I admire Elton John and others who are proud to wear glasses. The only time I wished I didn't is when swimming and photos. Glare shines on my glasses in photos. I could get anti glare but every little extra costs money.

Yup, I started wearing glasses in 3rd grade at the age of 9. We found out I was nearsighted - I was having a lot of problems reading the chalkboard, etc.

I was told to start wearing glasses in 5th grade, but I REFUSED to wear them until at least 8th grade. I only wore them in class and essentially squinted the rest of the time to see. When I started driving in 10th grade, I realized I had to wear them or I would probably crash the car. I gave up glasses and switched to contacts in late 11th grade and have been with them for two years now! Looking back, I probably wouldn't have such terrible vision (I can't even see the line below the giant E with my left eye) if I would have just worn them in 5th grade.

I always wanted them as a kid but never really needed them. I did have to get them in 7th grade for reading mainly because I was sort of farsighted, but after about a year I didn't really need them anymore. I haven't had an eye exam since 2006 (I was 15 then), although I probably need one, although I see just fine. For some weird reason, I actually like to call them spectacles instead of glasses.

Off and on when I was in high school. I alternated between glasses and contacts for a long time. I had LASIK in 2007 when I was 29. Best $3500 I've ever spent!

Does wearing them beginning at the age of 16 count as wearing them as a child?

I might like to have Lasik but am nervous for I hear all kind of problems may happen. Was told I have a start of cataracts and maybe with a new lenses things may be better. As for now sticking with glasses til things get worse.

Yes. Had to get my first pair of glasses when I was in the 3rd grade. At first, it started off as astigmatism but then it progressed into nearsightedness.
