What happened to the original Phantasm?

I looked more into it and it seems to be a rights issue.

The sequels are under Universal and Anchor Bay has the distribution rights to the original.

WTH with that cover art? Looks like a low budget 80's Italian action movie with werewolves.

I'm not a fan of most of this new cover art for the Scream Factory blu rays.
At least they are reversible.

And by the way, when the heck is Night Of The Comet coming???

Movie "The Howling", "Ninja III", "Dead Souls" Release Date

From the SCREAM Factory's Facebook:

** EXCLUSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT **

Scream Factory is proud to present a wild slate of mayhem in June that includes werewolves, haunted houses and even ninja possession!

The Howling (1981)

Known fondly for its humorous script, outstanding Rob Bottin effects and Dee Wallace (Cujo), this will release on 6/18 as a Collector's Edition on either DVD or Blu-ray.

(Important to note that this will mark the first time the film has been on the Blu-ray format in the U.S.)

New key art plus the iconic original theatrical poster art on the reverse side plus extras.

(The extras are still in development but you can pretty much expect that all of the extras that were on the prior MGM DVD release will be ported over)

Ninja III: The Domination (1984)

Think of a mix between The Exorcist, Flashdance and Enter the Ninja and you'll get the idea behind the 1984 quasi-horror exploitation hit, Ninja III: The Domination.

Releasing on 6/11 on a DVD & Blu-ray combo pack, this is the first time ever this crowd-pleasing exercise in the bizarre has been released on either format and in anamorphic widescreen from a new transfer.

Extras are still in development to be announced at a later date.

Dead Souls (2012)

We welcome our first (of more to come) contemporary titles to the Scream "family" with Chiller's Dead Souls.

Arriving on DVD and Blu-ray on 6/25, this unrated 2012-production of paranormal terror is directed by Colin Theys (Steve Niles’ Remains) and stars Jesse James (The Amityville Horror, The Flyboys), Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The Devil's Rejects) and Magda Apanowicz (The Butterfly Effect).

It contains seven more minutes of footage not seen in it’s recent run on Chiller TV and bonus features will include an audio Commentary, bloopers, tour of the set and TV spots.

Too bad Charles Pierce wasn't alive to participate in this release.

Movie "Swamp Thing" Update

From the SCREAM Factory's Facebook:

** EXCLUSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT **

Surprise! Wes Craven's 1982 Cult Comic Book Classic Swamp Thing (starring horror fan favorite Adrienne Barbeau) will be arriving this summer on Blu-ray for the first time!

As always, we are planning to provide as many bells and whistles as we can on this release, but we felt it was important to tell you early on that we will only be able to present the 91 minute U.S. cut of the film (the same version MGM has released on DVD since '05) and not the 93 minute "unrated" international version as we had originally hoped for.

This is due to legal issues that are out of our control and we hope you understand.

Stay tuned for more specific details – including exact street date - that will be revealed in the next 2-3 months!
