Default Character Assassination

Does anyone else get peeved how in the S2 episode "Sex Symbol", they basically assassinate the character(s) of Nancy, Sue Ann and Cindy?

I mean the three of them are only a few steps away from being the pre-cursor to Rachel McAdams and company in the film "Mean Girls". They way they basically knit Natalie a scarlet letter in this episode is in stark contrast to how their characters behaved in season one.

I understand that the episode needed antagonists but it peeved me that these three were brought back for this episode essentially just to act like a bunch of stereotypical catty teenage girls. I don't know why they felt in necessary to assassinate the character of Nancy, Sue Ann and Cindy this way?

PS: Don't even get me started as to how Sue Ann was portrayed in "The Little Chill". That was pretty disgusting as well.
