Default Close call for this one

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with a bad headache. The next thing I noticed was the smell of gas,and it was strong. I staggered down the hall knowing it could only be coming from my furnace or my prehistoric oven. I started opening as many windows as I could, then I lifted the top of my stove open and noticed one of the pilots was buried under white ash. Luckily I have a shutoff valve behind the oven. I spent about an hour cleaning all that out and decided to wait till morning to turn gas back on.It's a good thing I'm a light sleeper or I would be a permanent one. I really felt the devil's hand on my ankle that night. I am going to replace that gas bomb with an electric one this week. A word to the wise, use electric, or solar,or windmills, ANY THING BUT GASSSS !

If you buy a new gas stove or oven most of them do not come with pilot lights anymore.

Wow, very lucky indeed. How are you feeling? You mentioned the headache. Hopefully, you are okay now! Maybe you should see a doctor right away to be on the safe side.

Glad you're ok, my friend.

I've used gas my whole life and probably always will. I understand the risks, but electric stoves get hot VERY quickly and you could easily burn a hand. I think if you keep your oven clean and operate it safely, a gas oven is still a good investment.

A carbon monoxide detector would also be another good investment.

That sounds scary. That's good that you are ok.
I have an electric stove/oven. I don't know how to clean the oven though.

I lucked out again. I was all set to shell out big bucks to sears for an electric oven when a friend spotted one on craigslist. It's only 2 years old, this old lady is moving into one of those assisted living places and didn't need it anymore. I offered to buy it from her and she said she was going to give me money to haul it away. I told her I was more than happy to haul it for nothing. My breaker box in the basement is directly below where the oven is, so I just need to make a trip to the hardware store for the right length of wire and soon I will be hooked up.
