Default 3rd Rock from the Sun - The Complete Seasons One and Two DVD Review

3rd Rock from the Sun - The Complete Season One (Mill Creek)

Six years after its initial release on DVD, the first season of 3rd Rock from the Sun has been released again! Only this time, all the episodes are in their original unedited form. The show debuted mid-season in 1996 on NBC and follows the adventures of four aliens -- High Commander Dick Solomon (John Lithgow), a Lieutenant trapped in a woman’s body and going by the name of Sally (Kristen Johnston), senior officer/hormonal teenager Tommy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and bizarre Harry (French Stewart) -- as well, there was an extra seat on the ship. The group has come to Earth disguised as a human family in order to study our culture. Only they don’t understand it very well, and even the simplest of things prove to be quite complicated for them. Also in the cast is Jane Curtin as Dr. Albright -- a co-worker of Dick’s at the local college, whom Dick has begun to fall in love with.

3rd Rock from the Sun - The Complete Season Two (Mill Creek)

Here we are again, with season two of 3rd Rock From the Sun, released by Mill Creek on the same day as season one. This set was also originally released by Anchor Bay back in 2005, but to fans’ anger, they were also syndication edits. Fortunately, this time around, Mill Creek has gotten unedited episodes from Carsey-Werner, and they are hilarious. The show follows a “family” of aliens who have come to Earth to study our culture. Leader Dick (John Lithgow) is masquerading as a professor at a nearby college and in love with his co-worker Dr. Sally Albright (Jane Curtin), Sally (Kristen Johnston) is a man in a woman’s body, Tommy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is discovering what it’s like to be a horny teenager, and Harry (French Stewart) is just strange.

In this season, the Solomon’s continue their exploration of Earth and human culture, only now they’re beginning to explore more complex human emotions.

I know the 2-part 3D feature season finale of season 2 is supposed to have a James Earl Jones voiceover, even if only the short 7 second version, it even ran 50 minutes in original airing (25+25 minutes). It is featured on the region 2 DVD with introduction by French Stewart.
Other than that the runtimes seem all okay (having compared them to the R2 season 1+2 dvds).
