Mark Feuerstein to direct 'Royal Pains' episode

Royal Pains star Mark Feuerstein will direct an upcoming episode of the show.

The actor will helm 'Back to the Future', which began production earlier this week, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I think this is a natural extension for anyone who has the wherewithal and is passionate about storytelling," said Feuerstein.

Feuerstein is following in the footsteps of an increasing number of actors including Mad Men's Jon Hamm, Grey's Anatomy's Kevin McKidd and Chuck's Zachary Levi, who have all directed episodes of the shows in which they appear.

"We'll take those chances on these people because who knows these shows better than they do?" said USA's senior vice president of original scripted programming Bill McGoldrick.

"When you have that kind of passionate connection to the show, you're naturally going to want to get into a position where you can influence even more beyond your day job, which is acting."

McGoldrick added that it is a good way to keep actors invested in their shows.
