Default I can barely eat food anymore

I'm not sure what the heck is wrong with me, but for the last couple months, I have had no appetite whatsoever. That's an understatement, because the truth is, usually even the thought of food makes me nauseus. I know it's unhealthy, so I do force myself to eat, but what was once something that gave me joy, has now become an inconvenience, and a tough task for me. Our homeless friend Troy, was kind enough to buy us a pizza earlier this afternoon. (Don't ask how a homeless guy has the money to be buying people pizza, Iv'e been trying all day to figure that one out myself.) lol The pizza is still sitting here 5 hours later, after I was only able to force myself to eat half a piece. A few weeks ago I bought $15.00 worth of Chinese food. I wanted to buy enough to last me a few days. I took a couple bites, and was finished. Brought it upstairs and told mom and Carl they could eat it. Every once in awhile I enjoy food, but 99% of the time, it's a tough task, and even an inconvenience. Do any of you have any idea why this is happening? Your insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Your best thing to do would be to consult with a doctor and have them do some tests.

If it's been going on, as you say, for 2 months I don't know why you haven't done so already.

No arguments here, you are absolutely right, I should have said something sooner. I think the reason I didn't mention it, is because their were so many other things that needed to be addressed, that at the time seemed more important. I actually need to take notes from now on, so that I don't miss anything. I'll definitely be consulting her the next time I see her. Thanks for the advice!

Yes, infact. Am on a couple new ones, and recentely got off other ones. That's a good point you brought up. Funny how I missed the obvious. Thanks for bringing that up Mike. I'll definitely read all of my medication info again.

Are you having any symptoms that would cause you to not want to eat or make it difficult to do so?

I ask because last year when I got very sick I was down to only eating a couple thin pretel sticks and/or crackrs in a day and a little bit of water or soda. I was having horrible abdimonal pain. I tried to eat, but would become sick if I did so. It turned out that the pain and other symptoms were a result of two large gall stones that were blocking the bile duct in the gall bladder.

Have you had any intestiinal pain, stomach pain etc? Like someone else mentioned you might want to talk to your doctor about it. It's not good to go months with only eat small amounts of food.

Just my thoughts and opinions.

I've been through the same thing - just plain old loss of appetite. In my case, it's nerves. If it were me, I'd consult with a doctor and/or a nutritionist. Hope and pray all goes well!!!

Thanks Jen, I appreciate your advice. In answer to your question, yes, I have been having stomache problems over the last couple months. Have always had stomache problems, but it is much much worse then it previously was. I take stomache meds, but they don't seem to be very effective anymore. I think Iv'e become immune to it, as I have with many other meds over the years. Definitely might need to be a change in my meds again. Another couple things I have noticed is my dry mouth. It's hard for me to even swallow, and I have dry scabs in my nose which is making it hard to even breathe. Sometimes I have to pick them just so I can breathe, and that is excrutiatingly painful. And yes, I did bring this up to my doctor. They gave me some mouth spray called Biotine in hopes of getting my mouth moist again. It's not working though. Iv'e been drinking tons of water and gatorade too, but for some reason it's not working. Anyway, this is what you get when you live your life wrecklessley. Be warned people. Don't make the mistakes Iv'e made. The consequences are brutal. Had I known then what I know now, I would have been less wreckless. Can't think about that now, just need to take better care of myself from here on out, and pray that things improve. Thanks again Jen!

Definitely the best advice you can get.

Getting medical advice from folks who don't know you (even if they've experienced the same or similar symptoms) is not a good idea. You certainly wouldn't take someone else's medication, even if it was for a symptom you're experiencing. Same with advice. No two people's systems work exactly the same way.

Plus, a good doctor will know EXACTLY what questions to ask, as well as what to do with the answers you give them. AND... it's also possible that what they end up doing will also be determined, in part, by your medical history, which no one here knows anything about.

Thanks so much Monika, I appreciate your words. Iv'e always noticed how skinny you are. Weird, considering the fact that I have gained weight, and not lost any. Lost 27 pounds when I was on the adderall, but as soon as I was taken off, all the weight came back. Alot of it is nerves with me too. Very hard to eat when the anxiety is felt in the pit of your stomache. I will definitely take yours, Jen's, James, TiredMike, and Tweety advice. Thanks for your guys insight, and advice about consulting my doctor. Thanks again guys, once again you all pulled through when I needed you. I expected nothing less!

A few years ago, I was going through a period of anxiety so bad that I couldn't eat and fell to 98 pounds. I was so weak that my mother had to drive me to the doctor - and was warned by him that if I didn't put on some weight, he'd put me in the hospital and on a feeding tube. As it was, I had to drink chocolate Ensure to get some calories in me in a hurry. Thankfully, I rose up to over 100 pounds again and didn't have to go to the hospital, but it was a very scary time.

Wow, so sorry to hear this Monika. It's amazing how anxiety can literally cripple someone, to the point where they can't even eat. A great example of how mental pain, will eventually turn into physical pain. A depressed life only brings physical agony. Like the commercial says, depression hurts. It really does too. Thank goodness for Ensure. At the request of my doctor, I'd drink a couple Ensures each day when I was unable to eat. Unfortunately we can no longer afford it. Stuff is expensive. Anyway, so glad that you put on weight, and are healthier now as a result. Good for you for making the choice to get better, and actually having the motivation to do it, and not just talk about doing it! Props to you!

Ha ha ha, I think I know why you don't weigh more. I know that you are very active, and walk alot each day. Something I respect so much about you. You actually get off your ass, and force yourself to get excercise, unlike myself, and most others who sit on our asses all day, and expect God to do the work for us. Each year our New Years resolutions are the same, I'm going to lose weight, and I'm going to get more excercise. 15 years later, those are still our New Years resolutions. lol I admire you for your work ethic, and practicing what you preach. The way you gave up smoking cold turkey is really cool, and is a very rare trait. You're awesome Tara, and you are a huge inspiration to many!! Couldn't ask for a better friend. Thanks for practicing what you preach, and being real! Much Love To You my friend!!
