TV 'Dallas' Reboot NOT Picked Up For Fall Season By TNT

TNT has confirmed that its reboot of Dallas could still be picked up to series.

The project was absent from the cable channel's official fall schedule, which was confirmed earlier this week.

However, a spokeswoman for the network has since announced that TNT executives will make a final decision on the show's future in the next few weeks, after viewing the completed pilot episode.

The show, which will feature original Dallas stars Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman, is not expected to premiere before 2012 if it receives a full series commission.

Brenda Strong, Jesse Metcalfe, Julie Gonzalo, Josh Henderson and Jordana Brewster will also appear in the reboot.

Filming on the pilot episode, which took place at Southfork Ranch in Collin County, Texas, wrapped last Friday.

I think instead of a new series, they probably should have just done another reunion movie.

I'm happy about the returning characters/actors but I'm a bit worried about these newcomers. I don't want to see "Dallas" meets "90210"(the re-vamp not the original).

I am very much looking forward to this. I hope they make the official pickup announcement soon-the delay is very frustrating.

I am hearing different things from different supposed insiders on various message boards. It seems that it's fate may still be up in the air, with some saying a decision will be this week but who even knows anymore. At this point I am really starting to lose hope and that's majorly a let-down for me after all this time. I just wish they would make up their minds and tell us what the deal is, this is extremely frustrating.

I don't think it will rate the way it did before. These producers and such don't seem to get the fact that things have changed since the 80s. Dallas may have been a super hit back then, but people don't have the same taste now as they did then. Shows are much more aggressive and upbeat. Most every reboot I have seen has failed. The Bionic Woman FAILED---Night Rider FAILED---The Brady's FAILED---They even tried a reboot of Dynasty which FAILED---The Love Boat FAILED---I believe that Battlestar Galactica was the exception to the rule. But it was on Sci Fi and was not subject to the same ratings requirement as it would be for ABC. Adam 12 reboot didn't even last long. Now if they made Star Wars a TV series that would be a hit. I think these reboots are just their way of saying We have ran out of ideas.

This idea is far from dead, but the three original stars don't come cheap! What is cool about the pilot is that the opening is very similar to the original with a great redition of the original theme......spoiler alert.....don't scroll down if you don't want to know a plot detail.....

Patrick Duffy character opening scene has him diagnosed with cancer.

Have you seen the pilot? I know the script leaked but you say it opens with a great theme so that sounds more like you've seen a finished product. I certainly hope it gets picked up this week. I also hope, in regards to that spoiler, that he recovers from it through the course of the show. I definitely don't want Bobby to die like that, especially again!

Yes, they are still doing test screenings as of this week...6.27.11....that is why I also know it isn't dead.

Can you describe at all the opening sequence, what it's like? Is it very similar to the older ones or something new? Which of the cast actually makes the opening main title?

Actually none of the cast is actually in the opening titles, just their names, but the opening is almost exactly like the original when it comes to boxes and scenes of South Fork & Dallas in general...the opening title flies across the screen and the theme is terrific. SPOILER ALERT so stop reading if anyone doesn't want to know more of the plot....Bobby was named head of the family but SouthFork is having financial problems, Bobby wants to hold to his mothers wishes that there be no drilling on South Fork and he believes in the future of alternative energies. His son secretly drills on South Fork (opening scene) and strikes oil. When Bobby finds out he demands it be stopped. J.R. of course is not seen till the final 5 minutes when you find out he is behind all the badness and he says he is the second in the will and because of Bobby's cancer, that JR will soon be in control again.

If they can come to some reasonable financial terms, I'm sure the series will be picked up, but with the three principles, even in limited roles, their salaries are a problem.

Well that's interesting. Actually what I meant was if you remembered which cast member's names were in the opening credits, as opposed to after the opening sequence or at the end. Also, were the main credits in alphabetical order? Sorry, I know I'm weird but that's my kind of thing. Are you sure JR was only at the end? I heard he had 3 scenes throughout including an important one in the middle, not just at the end.

I don't know how well having no shots of the cast in the opening will do with fans. I'm always used to seeing the faces with the names, that will take some getting used to.

I guess at least we should be happy that they got the theme song. Most of today's shows only have a few seconds of bumper music.

No problems with your questions, I understand about being a fan of series....to be totally honest..I am/was not a fan of "Dallas", and when viewing the pilot, I wasn't really paying attention, I had the DVD playing in the background while working.....I was not part of any focus group viewing it for opinion.....I could check the DVD again, but I can definatley tell you the names were throughout the opening in small lettering and not starting with Larry Hagman. As far as Larry appearing throughout, he could have, but I know I was waiting to see him for interest purposes, but still was only keeping one eye and ear on the plot. So maybe I missed him, but when shown at the end, there is a build up, first seeing him from behind with a type of surprise reveal and then he starts saying how he will take over after Bobby passes of cancer. There might be several versions of the edited pilot, especially since it is still being tested and not on TNT's schedule. Hope that helps.
