Cool Disney's "Haunted Mansion" Hitch-Hiking Ghosts Get Updated

OMFG of the Day: Walt Disney World Secretly Unveils New 'Haunted Mansion' Hitchhiking Ghosts!
Monday, April 11, 2011
By: MrDisgusting

This morning Walt Disney World made a pretty substantial upgrade, one that will piss off the purists, but also blow their minds into confusion.

"This morning Walt Disney Imagineering unveiled its most impressive and interactive effect to date, adding playful new versions of the famous Hitchhiking Ghosts in 'The Haunted Mansion' who take delight in pranking unsuspecting guests.

The classic dark ride has always featured ghosts "who follow you home," appearing sitting next to guests by way of mirrors in the attraction's final scenes. The with new technological advances, Disney's Imagineers have created more lifelike and fun ghosts than ever before seen in the ride."

Watch the video inside and then tell us your thoughts.

I was just at Disney World last week, and had gone on the Haunted Mansion ride.

To my surprise the ghost that appears in your car was not there, and in fact it was just a screen of ghosts that you watched. It looked like they were in the process of changing or repairing or something, it was terrible.

Now I see they were in the process of changing it.

Sucked for me that I didn't get the good old Haunted Mansion ending I always remembered or the finished new product. I was hoping for my kids to see the ghost in the car- alas they will never see this apparently.

I haven't been to WDW since 2003 so I haven't seen all of these little changes. Periodically, Disney has been slowly updating their popular rides.

The hitch-hiking ghosts is one of the recent Haunted Mansion changes. Another one I read about was having the fortune teller in the crystal ball, Madame Leota, flying around the room.

They also updated the Pirates ride by adding Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in some of the scenes.

Looks pretty good. I like all ghosts so I approve.

What happened to the former ghosts? Did they "retire?"

Yes, they did add Captain Jack in a bunch of places in Pirates.
Hard to remember what used to be in his place.
It was still good though.
