This was a while ago, but this was just brought up in another thread. To prove a point to us, my psych teacher had us each give up something for a week.
About six of us gave up facebook for a week, and I'm pretty sure that only one person made it the entire week without cracking. If not one, then two at the most. Another thing that was noticed was that all of had started texting more than we had before we gave up fb. I think ten people gave up texting and I know that only four of them made it the entire week. These people in turn noticed that they were on facebook a lot more than they had been. Five gave up pop. I think out of the five there was only one that cracked, and the others made it the entire week. The ones who made it though were pretty cranky and irritable by the end of the week though. Four gave up junk food and only one person cracked. Those who didn't also seemed cranky and irritable. It was harder to give up forms of communication than it was food and caffeine. Or, at least those did better than the ones giving up communication.

I'm kind of wary of labelling things that just seem like habits as "addictions'. It's a popular thing to do these days, but sometimes I think it makes everything seem out of our control more than it really is.
Alcoholism, obviously, is an physical addiction, but so many of the things we all do every day are just habits that, while hard to break, don't require intervention or medical treatment.

I agree. I think anything we hold on a pedistool (money, Facebook, Twitter, the Internet, TV, sex, what have you) is an addiction. And addictions aren't healthy. I need a support group for Internet users. lol.

Right now I'm addicted to Frasier and writing fan fiction! But I hope there's not a cure! =)

You can be addicted to food and/or overeating. Especially processed carbs. They set up a dynamic that no matter how much you eat of them, you seem to want more....

My problem is music. I get hooked into an artist until I cannot get their songs out of my head. There are times where I have to end up taking a break and moving on to other music until the phase passes.

I am "addicted" to Halloween and possibly chocolate.

I have a serious need(addiction?) to Blistex and other lip balm products! I use it constantly and I have a tube in almost every room of the house and my coat pocket and even my car. Overall I would say that is the only thing that I'm addicted to.
