Default There was actually a reference made to Archie Bunker on the Brady Bunch???

Watching the Brady Bunch episode when the Kellys adopt the black and oriental kid and the Wife says the next door neighbor makes "Archie Bunker sound like a liberal"

LOL. Hearing Archie mentioned on a show like this was very surprising

I guess 'All in the Family' was a ratings juggernaught at the time. So it was hip to mention it?

Another 'All in the Family' connection: the Kelly's actually had a toilet in their bathroom.

What does the Kelly's having a toilet in their bathroom have to do with "All in the Family"?

Because 'All in the Family' was one of the first shows to feature a toilet flushing. In fact, it was a 'running' gag.

The Brady Bunch also featured a toilet flushing in the Season 5 ep, My Brother's Keeper. After Bobby & Peter divided the room down the middle, Peter bragged that he had the door to the hallway, so he could get out of the room, and Bobby bragged that only he could access the bathroom from the door in the boys' room. Then to prove his point, Bobby walked into the bathroom, and then a toilet flush was heard, this from the non-existent toilet in the kids' bathroom, showing that All in the Family made toilet flushing cool
even on a family show.

If you look closely, The Brady Bunch did occasionally let a non-family hour reference slip by. Another example was in the last episode "The Hair-Brained Scheme" where Cousin Oliver (of all people) said the word "sex" in reference to parents not wanting to talk about it or something to that effect.

I would expect it to be the other way around, since the BB was such a fictional, almost fantasy show compared to All in the Family. Even the town where the BB lived was fictional.

I would expect to hear shows like BB or Gilligan's Island mentioned on shows that were more realistic in nature.

Actually, according to Sherwood Schwartz in his new book about the show that he wrote with his son, Lloyd, the Bradys lived in Santa Monica, CA, or at least that's what Sherwood told Robert Reed when Reed complained that no city would allow a private residence to own a pay phone as the Bradys did for a Season 1 episode. Sherwood had done research and found that Santa Monica allowed private residences to have pay phones, so he told Reed that the Bradys lived in Santa Monica to stop Reed from complaining about the implausibility of anyone having a pay phone at home.

there was also the word dingbat used in the ep about harvey klinger where greg calls harvey a jerk a goof and a double dingbat so i guess harvey klinger was the first dingbat on tv and not edith bunker like we all thought

Well, you know something, the actor who played Sam Franklin, Allan Melvin, also had a recurring role on All in the Family and Archie Bunker's Place as Archie's friend Barney Hefner.
