Default Irene's Husband "FRANK" was so annoying

Damm, I can't stomach this man when watching this show on ANTENNA TV. All that singing and dancing around was just so unecessary. Glad he wasn't on the show long

I actually did not like either one of the Lorenzos. Both weak characters if you ask me.

Yeah, Irene had some good moments but overall they were kind of a bust. Frank was over the top with the "modern male" routine, which I am sure was to create a contrast with Archie's traditional role.

The one thing that was kind of hard to swallow was how much Edith liked Irene, even though she continually was cruel and rude to Archie. I mean, yes, Mike was rude too but at least Mike was in the family and did live there and had to put up with Archie's insults, but Irene would come right into Archie's home and blast him. I didn't expect Edith to kick her out but she could have at least said "Oh, now, Irene, that's just Archie" or stuck up for him just a bit.

Both characters (Irene and Frank) were a little overdone if you ask me. But they were OK. My take on Irene was she only gave Archie what she got. Frank could be a little whiney - like when his vichysoise didn't pucker lol. I could have lived without them (and so could the show) -but the most annoying character of all to me was the Meathead. I suppose he was necessary though.

When the show originally aired, I used to think that Frank Lorenzo was gay. He was just a little to over the top with his swishy emotions over little things and his constant dancing and singing. I figured it was an arranged marriage of companionship and convenience. Anyone else thinks that Frank was a closet gay?

I don't think Frank's modern male character was created as a contrast to Archie's traditional role, I think it was created to contrast Irene's MODERN WOMAN character.

I think the point of Frank and Irene was to show a husband and wife in opposite, untraditional roles, in a role reversal, which we all know is the worst thing in the world, and a feminine man is absolutly the worst thing in the world.

That's why Vincent Gardenia asked to be let out of the show. And O'Connor is quoted in his interview with the Archive of American Television saying that Vince felt it would ruin his career. O'Connor actually felt he was right in also saying that Irene was an empty character but Frank was a minus factor who sapped the strength of the show.
