Movie "24" Producer Howard Gordon Gives Movie Update

Exclusive Interview: "24’s" Howard Gordon reveals the scoop on the "24" movie (it’s on hold)
By A.C. FERRANTE / Editor in Chief
Posted: December 14th, 2010

What’s going on with the movie?

The movie is something that right now I’m not engaged or involved in.

The rumors are that [director] Tony Scott has an idea that he is going to run it by or has run it by Kiefer Sutherland. I don’t know what the status of it is.

Wasn’t there a Billy Ray script turned in?

There was a script, but ultimately it wasn’t the right proposition.

It wasn’t strong enough or compelling enough to the studio obviously to move ahead with it.

So that version is dead?

Yes.

Did the movie take the conceit of the real-time hook or was it more broader based?

It was more broader based and international.

"24" Producer Howard Gordon on the Movie
by Kim Potts
posted Feb 23rd 2011

It seems like there's a different rumor about the "24" movie every day, including one recently that Ron Howard would be directing the movie.

What's the latest news on the movie?

The "24" movie is on hold for now, although conversations are ongoing.
Beyond that, there is no news -- at least as far as I know.

What's the biggest challenge in taking "24" to the big screen?

The challenge is just not making it a movie for the sake of making a movie version of "24", but really having a compelling story ... simply making it good, frankly.

I know that sounds non-specific. But nobody's interested just to do it as an exercise. If it's going to be out there, it has to be out there for a good reason.

Do you still feel compelled by that material and subject and characters?

I feel compelled by Jack, that Jack is still out there. I feel like I miss him. I mean, it's that simple ...

And I think there's a way to see him on the big screen ... The 24-hour iteration of "24", I think, is done. But I think that there's life left in Jack.
