Default Zombie - The Dead Are Among Us on Blu-ray High Definition

From the Press Release: THE DEAD ARE AMONG US! In Italy, it was considered the "unofficial sequel" to DAWN OF THE DEAD. In England, it was known as ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS and banned as obscene.

In America, it was called ZOMBIE and advertised with the depraved tagline "WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU!" Tisa Farrow (THE GRIM REAPER), Ian McCulloch (CONTAMINATION), Al Cliver (CANNIBALS), and Richard Johnson (THE HAUNTING) star in this worldwide splatter sensation directed by ‘Maestro of Gore’ Lucio Fulci (CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY) that remains one of the most eye-skewering, skin-ripping, gore-gushingly graphic horror hits of all time!

Blue Underground is proud to present ZOMBIE in a new 2K High Definition transfer from the original uncut and uncensored camera negative in stores on October 25th. Each flesh-eating frame has been lovingly restored to skull-rotting perfection under the supervision of Cinematographer Sergio Salvati (THE BEYOND). Now fully-loaded with hours of brand new Extras, this is the Ultimate Edition of ZOMBIE!

Default Dead Alive Is Coming To Blu-Ray

One of the goriest fright films of all-time makes its high definition debut this fall as Lionsgate releases Dead Alive on Blu-ray Disc October 4.

The early film from Oscar winning director Peter Jackson is celebrating it's 20th anniversary

A mama's boy who has the unfortunate task of looking after his aging, evil mother, Lionel (Timothy Balme, Jack Brown Genius) believes his dreams have come true when he meets the love of his life. While out to sabotage her son's happiness, his Mum (Elizabeth Moody, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) is accidently bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey, which turns her into a flesh-eating zombie. Lionel is forced to put his relationship on hold to stop his undead mother, and the rest of the town that she's infected before it's too late.

Default 'Mimic' Gets the Platinum Treatment

Guillermo del Toro fans, rejoice! Lionsgate is set to release an all-new, super-special, totally tricked-out blu-ray edition of Mimic. One of del Toro's earlier directorial efforts, Mimic stars Mira Sorvino as an entomologist who creates a strain of super-cockroaches to combat some regular roaches who are carrying a disease that is killing kids. Who would have thought that plan wouldn't go well? After the jump, check out the goodies you can expect on Mimic: The Director's Cut.
The director's cut includes seven minutes of restored footage which "introduces subtle character moments" (translation: seven minutes that bored studio execs and brainless audiences). New goodies include featurettes on the creatures, shooting in the caves, and del Toro's vision; video prologue and audio commentary from del Toro; deleted scenes; storyboards; and a gag reel.
Mimic: The Director's Cut hits stores September 27th.

Default Basket Case Blu-Ray Detailed

In 1982, a low budget horror film raised its twisted head and created a buzz with a strange mix of comedy, gore, sleaze and heartfelt pathos. On September 27th, Image Entertainment and Something Weird proudly join forces to unleash Basket Case in a brand new HD transfer supervised by writer/director Frank Henenlotter. The Blu-ray™ has an SRP of $17.97 with a pre-book of August 30th and also contains a basket full of bonus features including an all-new video introduction by the director, commentary tracks and outtakes.

Carrying a mysterious wicker basket wherever he goes, Duane Bradley checks into a flea-bag hotel in New York’s Times Square. What’s in the basket, you ask? Why, it’s Duane’s hideously misshapen Siamese twin brother, Belial, who seems to wield some sort of odd control over his more normal looking brother. Together, they’re in town to hunt down and wreak havoc on the sick surgeons who separated them, but this isn’t your normal revenge flick.

With memorably gruesome scenes and some seriously disturbing stop-motion animation, Basket Case is one of the most beloved, cheerfully demented cult classics of all time. Many discovered it in the days of VHS, but now Basket Case is reborn and remastered on Blu-ray™ for a new generation of twisted fans to enjoy. Open the basket if you dare!

Blu-ray™ Bonus Features:
New Full-Frame HD Transfer Preserving the Original 16mm Camera Ratio
New Video Introduction by Director Frank Henenlotter
Audio Commentary by Director Frank Henenlotter, Producer Edgar Ievins, and Actress Beverly Bonner
Rare Outtakes and Behind-the-Scenes Footage from the Director’s Personal Collection
Two Theatrical Trailers plus TV Spot
2001 Video Short: In Search of the Hotel Broslin
Two Rare Basket Case Radio Spots
Gallery of Basket Case Exploitation Art and Behind-the-Scene Photos

Default The Blood Trilogy: Blu-ray Release Info and Cover Art

Image Entertainment and Something Weird have officially announced plans to release The Blood Trilogy (Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs, Color Me Blood Red) on Blu-ray, along with Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore on DVD. Scheduled for release on September 27th, we have the Blu-ray cover art and disc details.

Chatsworth, CA – He’s been hailed as a visionary and as a provocateur. His films have legions of fans, and just as many detractors. In 1963, he introduced stunned audiences to a new kind of cinema with Blood Feast – and in the process single-handedly launched “splatter cinema.” He is writer/director Herschell Gordon Lewis and he is truly the “Godfather of Gore.” On September 27, Image Entertainment and Something Weird pay homage to a true cinematic legend with the DVD release of Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore, and the high definition premieres of grindhouse classics Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs and Color Me Blood Red with The Blood Trilogy Blu-ray™ Special Edition!

With a $14.98 SRP for the DVD, and a $17.97 SRP for the Blu-ray™, fans will have a chance to not only explore the wild world of Lewis and his exploitation films, but they will be able to experience every splat, every slice and every drop of fake blood and guts in full 1080p glory! In addition, each release contains a crypt-full of special bonus features including audio commentaries, deleted scenes, outtakes, original theatrical trailers and art galleries.

Featuring interviews with cast, crew and critics such as director John Waters, drive-in movie critic Joe Bob Briggs and Herschell Gordon Lewis himself, The Godfather of Gore traces Lewis’ start in the innocent bare-naked world of “Nudie Cuties” before he shocked the world with Blood Feast, the first-ever gore film! Lewis then continued to assault audiences with such audacious shockers as She-Devils on Wheels, Blast-Off Girls, Just for the Hell of It, Two Thousand Maniacs!, The Gruesome Twosome, The Gore Gore Girls, and the incredible Wizard of Gore! Packed with tons of clips, rare outtakes, and testimony from the people who were there, Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore will leave you laughing and screaming at some of the most amazing motion picture madness to ever play American movie theaters!

Bonus Features on Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore:
-Over an Hour of Deleted Scenes!
-Herschell Gordon Lewis Trailer Reel!
-Rare Lewis Short: Hot Night at the Go-Go Lounge!
-Gallery of Herschell Gordon Lewis Exploitation Art!
-The Blood Trilogy Blu-ray™ presents three pioneering features from Herschell Gordon Lewis with all-new 1080p high-definition transfers and remastered 5.1 DTS HD audio, along with some bloody-good supplements.

Bonus features on The Blood Trilogy Blu-ray™:
-3 Audio commentaries by Herschell Gordon Lewis and David Friedman

I'm curious as to what del Toro will say on the new Mimic commentary since he has said that he was very unhappy with the film.

Makes you wonder if he'll spend the whole commentary talking about how things should have been? Or just talk about his other movies....I can't remember what movie it was but the entire commentary the director talked about his other films.

I'm curious about Captives and The Basement. I'm a huge fan of 80's shot-on-vid and Super 8 horror. I enjoyed both Video Violences, and I especially like Cannibal Campout...I even like Woodchipper Massacre(from the same director as Cannibal Campout)

I've got The Ripper Blood Pack(The Ripper / Blood Cult / Revenge), and Sledgehammer....I've seen them all before, just haven't gotten around to watching the DVDs yet.

Now if they would just release Blood Lake on DVD....

The good news is that the whole package is hitting in a deluxe version complete with your very own Jason Vorhees hockey mask (as shown below). The bad news is that the set looks to be DVD only, leaving the franchise Blu-ray tally at only the first three films and the remake.

As readers are no doubt aware, the first eight films were released through Paramount, meaning that, while the set takes us all the way to Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, Freddy vs. Jason and the 2009 remake are not included.

It sucks about the rights issue
I wasn't expecting Freddy vs. Jason and the remake to be included, but it stinks that all of the (original) films will not be included.

It does, I don't think we'll ever see a totally complete set.
